Curious if anybody has tried this. I know MyGolfSpy.com has done some initial testing and they said that they saw some signficant improvement from all but 1 of their testers in both accuracy and distance. Cost is about $140 for the set.

Why not just use a steel shaft to improve your accuracy? I'm skeptical about the accuracy claims. I suspect a distance claim could be true, but increased accuracy caused by shaft deflection???
I think there's a shaft named Apache (I don't know the name) that claims to have no deflection in their marketing materials but softer tips.

At the beginning of the video, he discusses what happens to the shaft at impact. I thought that, at impact, the head of the golf club is essentially floating in free space. In other words, it's as if the club head was not attached to a shaft at all. The shaft affects impact by what it does to the club head pre-impact, or to prepare the club head for impact. (It also plays a role post-impact for things like feel, feedback, etc.) So, if he would've started to discuss that the Shotmaker Insert helps improve deflection, and the rest of the "evils", pre-impact, I think I would be less skeptical. Or, perhaps, because it isn't widely known that the shaft doesn't have an effect at impact, they decided to just pretend like it does. Regardless, it looks like something that one could attempt to make on their own, for much less, to see what effect it has on their shots.

Pretty impressive. Only nit-pick (I know I've been critical lately) is that they had the testers hit 12 shots without the insert, then 12 shots with the insert. The improvement in accuracy could've simply been from the golfers getting warmed up or adjusting their aim. I'm sure tightdraw could chime in on better ways to test after all his years in audio testing. Testing is a subject that audio-nerds, I mean audiophiles , can debate endlessly.

I just purchased one for myself. I figured...what the hell.
Installation is probably what worries me. I e-mailed Harrison and wanted to see if I could install it without the cap because I'm getting the Talamonti and Wishon 919THI next week. I'm also curious as if I could install it with a GripMaster grip.
I may just wind up installing the shaft and everything and then taking it to a local dealer and see if they could install the shotmaker for me.
Ought to be interesting. It does have a 30-day money back guarantee.

What pros are using this insert? That would be very revealing if it truly works.

I have no idea. Although Harrison isn't a real big player on Tour. But, back in the 90's Harrison was typically the shaft that the mini-Tour players would use because they were really ahead of the times and companies like Aldila couldn't dominate those Tours.
The reviews I've been reading are incredible, showing the same thing that MyGolfSpy has shown...cutting down on side spin, better feel, etc.

I'm reading a gigantic thread about the Shotmaker on GolfWRX right now. Pretty much everybody raves about it. 1 guy said he wasn't sure if it helped or not, but the he did say that mis-hits felt much better.
It looks like you can install one without going thru the grip...I'll wait and see what Harrison says. And it appears that once you have the tools to install one, the shotmaker inserts by themselves are about $99. So if this works, I can put one in my 3-wood and hybrid (when I get my new 3-wood and hybrid).

I just spoke to Frank from Harrison. He said, yes....you do not need to insert the Harrison thru the grip. He said the reason why they provide the option is that it allows people to quickly un-install the Shotmaker. For me, since I use an air compressor...that's not a problem. But for somebody who uses the standard grip install techniques, they would have to cut the grip off...so they took that step out of the equation.

According to Harrison, they tested it on Trackman and here were the results 3JACK

I checked out GolfWRX and am skeptical of the positive comments because a lot of the comments I saw indicated that the backspin AND side-spin were reduced. There's no such thing as side-spin. Only backspin and axis tilt. If someone is talking about side-spin AND backspin they don't know impact conditions (you can't have both).
I'll trust your review 3JACK!

Cool. That Max Height column looks off. (I'm on a roll today.) PGA avg. height is 31 yds. (93 ft.) LPGA avg. is 25 yds. (75 ft.).
195 ft (assuming ft. They don't have the units.) is WAAAAAAY up there.

I looked over at Wishon's forum and the reviews are very positive so far. Gotta remember that Harrison isn't saying it reduces sidespin, but the golfers at GolfWRX are saying that because they simply don't understand that. But, that's what they are seeing. I'm about 1/2 way thru it.
My feelings are:
1. Some of it makes sense. 2. The reviews are about as good as it gets 3. It's not cheap, but it's certainly affordable. 4. There's a 30 day money back guarantee, so if you think it's crap, you can return it.
Obviously, the big worry for me is thinking it's good because so many others have reviewed it.
The numbers were robot testing data. I agree, max height looks off. I'll see why/how.

Another update on the busiest thread of the day.
The tools for the Shotmaker installation are on backorder. Won't ship out until August 24th. I may see if I can find a dealer who can install one instead. Problem so far is the only local dealers are about 2 hours away.
