Good article on KJ Choi and his clubfitting since the last TPC. www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/654920-equipment-changes-come-full-circle-for-choi/I think his clubfitter is very ambitious and wants to do the best job he can out there, which is something to admire. On the parallel tip vs. taper tip front, taper tip is more difficult to get the frequencies to match. Parallel tip really shouldn’t take longer to install because all you are doing is trimming from the tip end and butt end instead of just the butt end when you taper tip. I think the reason for the longer time is the Tour Vans are trying to frequency match the irons. That’s why Chuong should really get to know about Shaft Bend Profiles because you can have 2 shafts with the same total shaft frequency, but they behave completely different. 3JACK

Interesting to see Miruas on tour.

Would have never happened 5-years ago. But sponsors are harder to come by these days.

So two Rifle shafts with the same frequency and flex could have different bend profiles?

So two Rifle shafts with the same frequency and flex could have different bend profiles? No. KBS and other companies that don't have frequency matching, but are parallel tip...then you may run into that issue. What Chuong was doing was he would trim more or less from the tips of the parallel tip shafts until the frequency matched. That's why they are saying that 'parallel tips take longer to install.' It's a bit of a tedious process to get the frequencies to match adjusting the amount you trim from the tip section. Trim too much and it's too stiff, you have to throw out that shaft and get a new one. Let's say you have parallel tip shafts with the tip trimming instructions as follows: 3-iron: 1-inch 4-iron: 1.5 inches 5-iron: 2 inches But, in order to frequency match, you trim them as follows: 3-iron: 2-inches 4-iron: 0 inches 5-iron: 0.5 inches You're starting to affect the stiffness of the tip section. The 3-iron may be too tip stiff for the golfer, causing them to hit it too low with too low of a spin rate. And the 4 & 5-irons may be too tip soft, causing them to hit it higher with more spin. It sounds to me like KJ Choi just needed a softer tip section. Who knows on the butt section, but if he had a set of shafts that he liked the feel of, but wanted it to launch higher with more spin, he needed to keep the butt section stiffness the same and just find some shafts with a stiffer tip section. The problem with getting frequency matched rifles or Project X is that that the frequency may fit the golfer and the bend profile can be the same, but that bend profile may not fit the golfer's swing. 3JACK

He played combo set of MP-29 and MP-14's in his later teenage years. The Titleist irons were designed by Miura, but they were still Titleist. Nike is all Tom Stites stuff. 3JACK

It would be interesting to see what would win without sponsor contracts. My guess is probably Mizuno, PING and Titleist. Still, I don't know if companies like Wishon, Scratch and KZG would fare all that much better because most Tour pros are exactly like the amateurs...they go off by what they are told. 3JACK

I'll be buried with my Wishon 919 driver and 929 woods. I have an ever changing wedge system... there are a few Edel fitting locations nearby, maybe a Father's Day gift to myself would settle things there. My putter should be staying in the bag for the foreseeable future, a Cleveland Classic KG #1... Love it.

Check out Edel. I can finally drive with my hands ahead without excessive digging or fat shots on wedge shots. Feels great. You won't hit perfect shots every time, but you can buy confidence with these clubs.
