The book 'Mental Management for Great Golf' by Dr. Bee Epstein-Shepherd is something I highly recommend. It goes a bit into 'self-hypnosis' which is a technique to do things like slow down your breathing and your heart rate and help get you in the zone.
Anybody else have some mental books or DVDs that they recommend?

Hi Rich, I am a big believer in the mental side in any sport. In golf it is so important because you could be going along superbly and suddenly you hit a bad shot out of nowhere. I see it often and then what happens the player beats themself down for playing such a bad shot and tries to analyze the shot to death. They then lose their focus, concentration, mental calmness and most importantly their CONFIDENCE and their game proceeds to fall apart The books I have and would recommend highly are the following: 1) THE NEW TOUGHNESS TRAINING FOR SPORTS by James E. Loehr, Ed.D 2) THE MENTAL EDGE - Maximize Your Sports potential with the Mind-body Connection by Kenneth Baum and my favourite... 3) EMBRACING YOUR POTENTIAL - by Terry Orlick, PhD "FEEDBACK IS THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS"

I just read 'The Inner Game of Golf' by W. Timothy Gallwey and thought it made some great points. I used one of his drills at the range the other day and thought it helped me hit some better shots. Range ≠ Course, I know, but I think the drill could transfer easily since it's not a mechanics drill.

Hey I'm new to this forum and golf.
I am dropping a ridiculous amount of shots from poor choices on the course and also when I play a poor shot/hole then I seem to have 3-4 bad holes straight after, usually from wrong choices of shot/club. and I often fall into the trap of thinking I have a shot "to try pull back" then my game goes really bad.
Can someone please recommend the best books for...
1. Course strategy/management 2. Mental improvement/strategy for golf
Or if anyone has any tips? Or experiences?

The best book I ever read about golf psychology is Fearless Golf. I've enjoyed everything by Rotella, but his best book isn't as good as Fearless Golf.
Most of the time golf psychologists just keep saying the same thing in a different way. Fearless Golf just clicked for me which is why I sing its praises. I've purchased a couple copies because of all of the highlighting. I can re-read that book each year and learn something new. Pia Nelson has a decent book as well.
Great golf starts when you stay in the present. Easier said than done and there is no magic bullet no matter how many books your read or shots on Trackman. Just tools to help you reach your peak quicker.
Check out these books as well:
The Elements of Scoring (fantastic book - second best behind Fearless Golf for me)
Smart Golf by Hale Irwin Caddie Sense Getting Up and Down (Tom Watson)

Cool, cheers. Kinda don't know where to start with that haha
I just have a terrible habit of putting pressure on myself or kicking myself for poor shot selection then I tense up for the next shot and that messes up... It's then a cycle.
I'll have a look at fearless golf, thanks for the recommendation.
