As I mentioned in another thread...I would love to shoot the course record at Eastwood. That's a (-8) 64. I believe Duffy Waldorf has the record of a 65. I don't think I'll be doing great on Sunday playing Eastwood because I'll have a busy weekend and will be coming in from my parents' place which is about 70 minutes away.
Here's my gameplan off the tee:
#1 - 3-hybrid off the deck.
I may go with driver if the wind is strong and behind me. But other than that, the risk of going in the water or the woods is too high here. May need a 3-iron if the wind is crazy enough.
#2 - No more cutting it around the corner. I'll tee it up a little higher, give it a rip, but aim more down the middle.
#3 - par-3
#4 - I'm going to go with a stock driver and tee it up on the left side of the tee. More of an experiment that anything else.
#5 - Stock driver
#6 - Stock Driver
#7 - Stock driver
#8 - par-3
#9 - Tee it up on the right side of the tee so I can avoid the right side. Stock driver though.
#10 - same as #9, but close attention to not closing the clubface.
#11 - Stock driver, but I will not attempt to cut the corner.
#12 - par-3.
#13 - 3-hybrid off the deck.
#14 - Par-3
#15 - stock 3-wood.
#16 - hit up on a driver.
#17 - Stock driver
#18 - Stock driver

This week I’m playing Eastwood on Saturday and then Walkabout GC on Sunday. My thinking is I should try to play Walkabout approximately once a month, right before my next lesson. I’m getting another lesson on Saturday, the 7th with George (http://www.moradgolfgeorgehunt.com/)
Since my last time at Walkabout, my swing has improved quite a bit. It’s still got a few kinks to it, but I hope to get the major kinks worked out by Sunday. I also now have a bit of a different gameplan as noticed on my blog posts about the ‘Birdie Zone’, ‘Safe Zone’ and ‘Danger Zone’ along with ‘unimpeded’ and ‘impeded’ shots. I’ve also got a better understanding of AimPoint although I’m only at the tip of the iceberg there.
Still, last time I shot 72 (E) at Walkabout and actually I blew it. I was -1 thru 11 and then had legit birdie opportunities on #13 thru 16 and came away dry. Then I hit an awful tee shot on 17 and wound up making bogey on a birdie-able par-5.
Here’s my projected zone for approach shots:
#1 – Safe Zone #2 – Birdie Zone #3 – Danger Zone #4 – Danger Zone #5 – Safe Zone/Birdie Zone #6 – Safe Zone #7 – Danger Zone #8 – Safe Zone/Birdie Zone #9 – Birdie Zone #10 – Safe Zone #11 – Danger Zone #12 – Danger Zone #13 – Safe Zone/Birdie Zone #14 – Safe Zone/Birdie Zone #15 – Safe Zone/Danger Zone #16 – Birdie Zone #17 – Birdie Zone #18 – Safe Zone/Danger Zone
So, let’s look at the Danger Zone holes first:
#3 (par-3) #4 (par-4) #7 (par-3) #11 (par-3) #12 (par-4)
Essentially I should strive to miss the approach to the right if I miss the green. #4 I just need to find the fairway. I think I can be more aggressive with #12 because the fairway is wide open. But, overall theme is to miss right.
Here’s my strategy on the tee shots on non-par-3’s.
#1 – Low Driver #2 – Stock Driver #4 – Low Driver #5 – Stock 3-wood #6 – Stock 3-wood #8 – Stock Driver #9 – Stock Driver
#10 – Stock Driver #12 – Up-hit Driver #13 – Up-hit Driver #14 – Stock Driver #16 – Stock Driver #17 – Up-hit Driver #18 – Stock Driver
So that is:
- 2 low drivers - 7 stock drivers - 3 up-hit drivers - 2 stock 3-woods
I’ve found that my up-hit driver tends to pull or fade because the path is going left. So it’s really a shot that is not for accuracy because it can have a 2-way miss to it. However, if it’s fairly open on the tee shot and the trouble isn’t hugging the left side, it’s a good shot to hit. That’s why I don’t hit it on par-5’s #2 and #9. I could probably hit it on #9 though. #2 makes little sense because of the way the hole is designed.
Here’s my hole by hole rundown
#1 – 435 yard par-4
Low driver and should wind up in the safe zone. Probably greatest chance for an impeded approach shot. Better off hitting driver in the water than left in the lost ball area. Short is the best miss on the approach. Tough hole
#2 – 557 yard par-5
Stock driver. Aim at fairway bunker on the right. Leaving 2nd shot right of the green is better than left of the green because of the slope of the green. Should get 2nd shot into the Birdie Zone
#3 – 187 yard par-3
Danger Zone Approach. Best miss is right of the green.
#4 – 455 yard par-4
Low driver off tee, Danger Zone approach likely. Best miss is right of the green. Take one club less if pin is in the back part of the green so you can just find the GIR
#5 – 335 yard par-4
Stock 3-wood. Wedge in. Borders on Birdie Zone approach.
#6 – 377 yard par-4
Stock 3-wood. Fairway opens up the further you hit it. Keep ball right instead of left off the tee. Safe Zone approach shot.
#7 – 214 yard par-3
Danger Zone approach, Best miss right
#8 – 401 yard par-4
Stock driver. Borderline Birdie Zone approach. Best miss right.
#9 – 563 yard par-5
Stock driver. Up-hit driver if it’s a tailwind. If pin cut behind slow, fly a LW in.
#10 – 396 yard par-4
Stock driver. Borderline Birdie Zone. Just find the middle of the green. Tough green.
#11 – 208 yard par-3
Danger Zone par-3. Best miss right.
#12 – 468 yard par-4
Up-hit driver. Danger Zone approach. Best miss right.
#13 – 589 yard par-5
Up-hit driver. Borderline Birdie Zone approach. Hit approach high instead of low.
#14 – 402 yard par-4
Stock driver. Borderline Birdie Zone approach. Miss left or right depending on pin position.
#15 – 168 yard par-3
Typically best miss right. Pin in back, we shoot at flag. Miss left is okay if pin is in back.
#16 – 388 yard par-4
Stock driver left of the hills. Birdie Zone approach. Back pin – keep ball left of cup. Middle pin – keep ball right of cup.
#17 – 558 yard par-5
Up-hit driver. Possible to get it on in 2.
#18 – 445 yard par-4
Tee right side of box. Stock driver. Borderline Danger Zone approach. Shots kick off the green to the right.
GOALS
13/18 GIR No 3-putts No Double Bogeys or more 6 or less Danger Zone Attempts 0 impeded approach shots 4 birdies
