So a piece of shit finally got a bullet in his head. This thread is a 'free-for-all', so pretty much say whatever you like as long as you don't insult or argue with other members.
Glorious day

I hope a picture surfaces of his dead body.
Obama just got elected to a second term. I hope I'm wrong.

Glad they killed one person.
Sad there are thousands if not more ready to take his place.
Cut off the head of a hydra...

Would love to someday listen to the actual military communications from the mission. How awesome would that be?

There was a show on the History Channel (IIRC) discussing the times they came close to killing Bin Laden. A few times they had him, but Afghan forces screwed it up. So we finally had our guys handle the entire thing and they finally killed him. Amazing what happens when you let highly skilled bad asses be...highly skilled bad asses.

All I know is it sure feels good to use Bin Laden's name in the PAST tense.

One guy, about 6 years older than me, who went to my high school, joined the Navy SEALs a long time ago.
He was truly the All-American kid.
He was the star basketball player whose parents were lower middle class and his dad was confined to a wheel chair.
Probably one of the greatest stories ever. He was invited to the Nike Summer camp because he was a good kid with good grades and people knew his situation. They thought if he could something, he may get some offers to play at a low level D-1 school.
Well, he just wasn't good enough and he barely played at all the entire camp. They split the camps into teams and his team winds up going to the finals where they are playing against Alonzo Mourning's team. The kid never got in to play, but right before the half, they had a bunch of injuries and he had to play. He goes on to score 24 points in the second half.
So now college teams were interested in him, but he decided to stay at home and play ball for a D-II team. Where he graduate with honors.
Great all around guy.
And if that's the type of guys that the SEALs are taking in, it's no small wonder why they are such a great and mighty part of our armed forces.

Is great news, but nowhere near 'mission accomplished' by any means. Undoubtedly good propoganda and glad for the lives it will save.
Arguably, movements without figureheads are more frightening. There haven't been dustbins near my office for twenty years. The IRA never had a general to target, but still managed to strike fear into the hearts of most Brits (whilst apparently funded by American movie-stars that could just about point to Ireland on a map - a different story altogether). Saddam Hussein has been gone a long time. Still waters run deep.
Sorry to doom-monger, congratulations are deserved for everyone involved in the numerous operations required to carry something like that out, but history has taught us that much more effort will be required from here to educate and make lasting change.

Getting him was more symbolic in nature in that it sent a very clear message that the USA would not give up no matter how long it took. Not sure it makes any difference to many of these psycho's but it meant something to a lot of people.

Yes, Bin Laden being killed was symbolic. I think even moreso because of the way he was killed. I think the perception is that the US will just push buttons and bomb people. It also wasn't working for 10 years. I'll try to keep this non-political, but with Obama as the President he did promise that Bin Laden was a #1 priority and Bin Laden was killed in 2 years of Obama's presidency.
I think there's a lot of other things that go into it, but the perception of Obama was that he was going to be weak against terror and with the killing of the pirates a couple of years ago and now the SEALs hunting and killing Bin Laden, I think the perception of Obama is different with *terrorists*.
However, I know that a lot of the families and friends of those killed in 9/11 feel that Bin Laden was brought to justice. It obviously doesn't bring their loved ones back, but it gives them some closure that they badly wanted and needed in their lives.

I thought this was funny in light of just flying helicopters into his country and doing exactly what we wanted to do, nice defense they got.
"Pakistan reserves the right to retaliate with full force. No one should underestimate the resolve and capability of our nation and armed forces to defend our sacred homeland," Gilani said.

Why does something only become a 'compound' when it either needs attacking or has been attacked?
Waco. 'We performed an offensive manoeuvre on the compound'. No you didn't. You launched a full scale assault on a farm. A farm full of nutters, yes, but things that look like ducks, walk like ducks and quack like ducks are ducks.

The place seems to fit the standard definition Compound (enclosure), a cluster of buildings having a shared purpose, usually inside a fence or wall
