So I played yesterday, I don't play much, and the expectations were pretty low. I was driving it very well (minus a pull hook OB) but the irons were not struct well, straight but I kept coming up short, not compressing the ball. You can shoot a good score like that but it feels like shit.
So I hooked ball along the tree line and had 185 to the pin. I had to hit a cut to 6 iron to get close but a straight shot as long as it had height would hit the left side of the green.
So I opened my stance, open the face, took my grip, and made a very aggressive swing knowing there was no room for a mechanical thought, had to hit this ball.
Result.
Highest straightest 6 iron ever.
I felt like it would cut 30 yards. I really hate this game, how do I hit a shot like that when trying to manufacture a shot by with all kinds of funky alignments!

Or you may have just happened to time that swing just right.
I find that happens to me quite a bit. Struggle, experiment with something new and hit it well. Maybe hit it well for the rest of the day. Then the next day it disappears.
I think regardless of how you swing, there will be timing involved. It’s just that some swings require less of a dependence on timing and/or put the golfer in a better position to time their swing and hit good shots.
