I was at Pro Golf demo clubs and they had a couple of PING ZING 2 clubs in the used bin and was amazed of how they felt and trajectory was great also. Even bad hits showed up on the screen as decent hits. They had a JZ shaft. No idea about shafts but have an example below. Anybody have any comments on clubs? I know they are older but was amazed with design and comfort. I think they would be a great spare set and travel clubs when I don't want to bring my best. ebay had several sets and just have to look them over for care and quality. If this isn't the best thread to post here, let me know where I can post to get some help. Ah yes, the golf club only a mother could love.
I have generally used blades or muscle back irons all of my golfing life, but there was always a certain je ne sais quoi about the Ping Zing 2s. During one of my many 'I'm so bad at this, why do I even bother?' moments, I stopped short of putting all my clubs on e-Bay and taking up fishing, and got a second hand set of these instead. Good and heavy, huge sweetspot, decently stiff light shaft, ugly as sin, and they work. Getting confidence back or using them all the time, either way, that is a good purchase in my book (and in my garage).
Haven't tried any new irons recently, but these are still good distance-wise. Good to have in the stable.
Look out for the copper wedges. Unfortunately, they stopped making BeCu clubs altogether after they had done the wedges, but before they did the irons.
The only downside is the 'Ping fairway flier'. Every now and then, I have hit the odd seven iron twenty yards over the pin from a perfect tight lie in the fairway. It is like there is a secret tiny sweetspot in the middle of the actual sweetspot. My brother had a set of later Pings and it was hilarious how often this happened. From my experience, the Zing 2s seem better than others, but can still happen.

My first set of irons and I still contemplate going back to them about once a month. I started to get a little snobby about what the club looks like on the ground and have gravitated towards smaller headed clubs with a lot less offset, but I still seem to hit the old stand-bys better than any clubs I've had since.
