Greg,
I don't know why you don't like the fact that Brian's head drops down in his driver swing. I think that it is a biomechanically natural phenomenon - because the cervical spine is naturally decoupled from the thoracic spine due its great degree of flexibility. The head will naturally move backwards when a golfer wants to hit the ball further and uses a more assertive pelvic action that produces a greater degree of secondary axis tilt.
Brian has an outstanding swing. I like the fact that he has no evidence of the S&T leftwards tilt/extension of his spine during his backswing action. I also like his arms movements in the backswing. He doesn't pull the left arm across the chest like a S&T golfer. His hands are opposite his mid-chest, rather than his right chest, when his left arm is parallel to the ground in the backswing. I also like the fact that he uses a takeaway swivel action, and he doesn't attempt to keep the clubface slightly closed to the clubhead arc (like a S&T golfer).
If I was forced to choose a single golf swing as representing the optimum way to perform a golf swing, I would choose his swing.
Jeff.

Why do you always have to compare his swing to S&T? Can't you just say he has a good swing and be done, without throwing S&T under the bus every time it comes up.

Interesting to me that he hits it so far with such a short backswing and a short finish. I think I could hit like this, but I can't seem to get anywhere close to that distance. How much of that is equipment? Not really any of it. He isn't using anything you can't buy in the stores. All pretty standard stuff.

Sorry. I should've asked: How much of that (i.e. distance) is playing the best equipment for his swing?

Jeff. to me I would worry about head moving back creating excess axis tilt and then under plane over draws....in general this is something I have seen with good players. I agree with a driver this not really near the issue as you want to hit up on the driver, with long irons I think it could create some misses. *preface this buy saying I am no pro and that is absolutely nit picking.

Sorry. I should've asked: How much of that (i.e. distance) is playing the best equipment for his swing? I think with the driver it matters, it important to get clubs that fit but with the driver it seems there is a broader range of what you can do with equipment.

Greg,
I think that the head can drop without the upper swing center moving down-and-back - because the cervical spine is very flexible. I would only be concerned if the the head moves the upper swing center away from the target.
Jeff.

Dan,
Do you offer online instruction? i.e. If I sent you some videos of my swing would you take a look and let me know what you thought. If so, How does that work? After I send the video, can I give you a call and we talk about your thoughts, or do you do it through e-mail? I'm interested in learning about S&T.
Thanks, VJ

Dan,
Did you happen to do a "face on" view of the video/student I linked?
