I have a Scotty Cameron Sonoma with 1* of loft (confirmed previously with digital Mitchell machine) that is very hard to control. I hit this putter so solid at times that the putts just keep going and going.
I bought a used Cameron Heavy Flange off eBay (it has the exact same total weight - 575 grams - as the Sonoma - I got lucky) and my distance control is way better. I suspect the Flange has 4* of loft (just a hunch). If the putter has too LITTLE loft could it cause distance control problems that I'm experiencing? I have this exact same problem with my Edel which also has 1* loft. Very solid feel, but on fast greens (>10 for me) I can't control the distances.

Absolutely.
Faster greens generally do better with lower loft. Slower greens generally do better with higher loft.

Thanks. I'm getting my lofts adjusted.
