How do you approach a round of golf when you are in the process of making swing changes? Do you commit to the new swing? Or do you draw a line between the range and the course?
If things start to go bad, do you revert to your old tendencies?

I commit to the swing change, but I try to break it down into working on one thing. The problem is that a lot of teachers give the students too much to work on (and usually it's stuff they don't need to work on because they are a 'method' teacher).
I don't try and revert to the old stuff because if I'm playing a round of golf, it's not THAT important to me.

If things start to go bad, do you revert to your old tendencies? This is very tough as I am going through it right now. I can tell you I did not play for the first month I started making the serious changes, and my instructor said when I did play hopefully its a pretty loose round. If you think there is a chance that you would have some serious doubts if you got off to a bad start that you would dump the changes then I would not play. I have a very serious game on Saturday so if I get off to a bad start it will test my mental skills but thats part of the process.

I would work hard on the range.
Then reward myself by playing, BUT....if I made 2 swings in a row reverting back to "old" stuff I would pick up and go back to the range tee.
I think this is a good test to stay focused, and if you make it several holes you have a good score going too!

I would highly suggest playing some 9 hole rounds where you drop 2-5 balls or whatever it is and work on the shots on the course before playing an actual round. Preferably in the evenings by yourself or with one other person. I have found my best improvements have been where i work on something on the range for 30min, play 9 holes hitting shots a few times, then hit balls after.
