While I am more a lurker type on the golf forums and rarely post. Lately I have posted a few times on this forum. Just feeling more social I guess.
Anyway I decided to do an experiment today. One of the things on many forums is guys posting about swing speeds in excess of 110 mph and changing a shaft or to a certain club head and then hitting 11 of 14 fairways with the 3 misses just in the short grass. Then posting all my drives were 290 to 310 with one long at 345. The BS just blows me away. Not saying it's not possible but the truth is these guys should be playing the mini tours at least with the numbers they post.
So here was the experiment. First, I shoot between 81 to 84 when playing well from the Blue tees and when I am bad I may shoot as high as a 94. Usually shoot in the 80's. I live and work in Asia and the courses I play are long and difficult courses. I decided to play 2 balls today as the course was quiet and wide open. I played one ball as I usually would. Tee to green. The other ball I would place in the fairway as if I hit it 290 to 300. I placed 11 balls in the fairway and 3 in the short grass. Even picked 7 bad angles to the flag on the second ball. I always putted the 2nd ball out first. Then went to my tee to green ball.
Scores:
2nd ball - 84. Putted this ball better. Probably would have been more like 86 or 87 if I had putted this ball first.
1st ball - 74. If I had putted a little better I probably would have been even or 1 under.
I obviously need to work on my tee box game. Lol! But this was exactly what I thought may happen. It was a lot of fun to try this and I plan to do it again to see if I get similar results.
The point is there is so much Bull$--t on forums of guys boosting there ego's that I always try to filter it out to get an understanding if something may benefit my game from the information posted. It's either the ego thing or there iron and short game just sucks! Lol! I am a good iron and short game player for my skill but it no way am I pro material.
Just wanted to share the info. I would suggest if any of you get a chance to try this. You should try it, it is very enjoying.
