Course: Harmony Golf Preserve
Ball: Callaway SR3
Weather: 94°, sunny, 0-1 club wind
Decided to play Harmony Golf Preserve because I knew it was going to be hot and I just wanted to play a round by myself so I could finish in about 2 hours. Played in a foursome with my dad and 2 of his friends on Saturday and there was more of a breeze and it was much worse because that round took 3 hours 45 minutes.
Typically, come the end of July is when I really look forward to the Fall. Then the Fall hits and it’s really nice, but the time change shortens the day too much. Then by March you want every tourist to go back home and you’re looking forward to the summer again. That’s what it’s like living in the FLA.
The course was in decent shape. The greens were fine. Just a lot of weeds growing out there and they could really use some good weed killer.
#1: Good driver down the middle. Hit extra club and caught a 7-iron thin which worked out fine as I was pin-high, about 15 feet away. Played for a putt to break and it didn’t and made par ( E )
#2: This hole always screws me up, but I usually end up in good position off the tee. I hit a poorly struck driver here that ended up in the middle of the fairway. Hit my SW to about 10-feet, missed the putt and made par ( E )
#3: 5-iron into the wind and I hit a really high pull draw that missed left. Had a funky chip that surprisingly spun hard and stopped on a dime. 2-putted from 15-feet and made bogey (+1)
#4: Decent driver down the middle. I flushed a 7-iron to 15-feet and just missed the birdie (+1)
#5: Good drive down the middle followed by a good 2-hybrid. I then hit a SW to 5-feet and canned the birdie ( E )
#6: The wind was blowing into us and I didn’t quite catch my 3-hybrid and I missed left. Weak chip and left myself with a 7-footer and missed the comebacker (+1)
#7: Caught the driver a smidge off the toe and it drew on me and I missed the fairway left. Hit a nice PW into a blind green to about 15-feet. Just missed the birdie and made par (+1)
#8: Good driver down the middle. Unfortunately, I got screwed with a very uphill lie. I hit my mini-driver and struck it well, but it didn’t go far due to the uphill lie. Weak wedge shot to 20-feet, 2-putted and made par (+1)
#9: Nice driver down the middle. Hit an ugly 9-iron that barely found the green. Then I drilled a 65-foot putt that broke about 4-feet for birdie. AimPoint Express at its finest. (E)
#10: Good mini-driver down the middle as it’s not feasible to hit driver off this tee. I hit a good 9-iron, but it went a little long and 2-putted from 25-feet, just lipping out (E)
#11: Pulled the driver a little bit, but hit it well. Hit a PW to the left part of the green. Drilled my first putt about 7-feet bye, but made the comebacker (E)
#12: Flushed a 5-iron right at the flag to about 15-feet, but couldn’t come up with the birdie (E)
#13: Crushed my driver, but it tailed off on me and into the fairway bunker. All I could do was punch out. I then hit a nice PW to 15-feet, but couldn’t make the putt (+1)
#14: Decent driver, but it found the left rough. I decided to hit 4-iron because the flag looked like it was up front and I was afraid of missing left in the water. I figured I would try and get it to about 85 yards and leave myself with a full swing. I flushed the 4-iron, but I realized why I don’t like that ‘lay-up into a full swing wedge’ strategy. The pin was actually in the middle and the wind was just enough so I couldn’t hit my LW 85 yards. I hit it about 78 yards and 2-putted for par. (+1)
#15: Decent driver that ended up in good position. Flushed a SW to 7-feet, but couldn’t make the birdie (+1)
#16: Great driver down the middle. Not a very good mini-driver shot, but ended up okay. Pitched to a about 15-feet and didn’t make the putt. (+1)
#17: Mediocre 8-iron that found the green. At this point I was getting tired from the oppressive heat. 2-putted and made par (+1)
#18: Good driver down the middle. Tried to hit my 3-hybrid but I hooked a bit, but ended up on the fringe. 2-putted and made par (+1)
THOUGHTS: For working on new things with my swing, I’ve hit the ball pretty accurately and precisely. The iron play was really good here and I drove it pretty well. Struggled with my shorter irons and while I didn’t feel like I putted that bad, I didn’t make any putts outside of the 65-footer on #9.
