Course: Juliette Falls
Weather: 91-95 degrees, 8 mph wind
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Stimp: 8 to 8.5
My dad and a friend of ours went to play Juliette Falls today as my dad's birthday is on Sunday. The last time we played Juliette Falls, which is one of my favorite designs, they had some issues with the greens. But, this time the course was in darn good shape. A couple of holes still had some green issues and they let the grass on the greens grow out, but other than that, it was in great shape. I always highly recommend Juliette Falls to anybody looking to play in the vicinity.
#1: Not a good swing and the ball ended up much nicer than the swing I put on the ball. I hit a S-Wedge to 15-feet and gave this a good run, but missed the birdie and made par ( E )
#2: Another ugly swing with the driver. I only hit it about 240 yards, but it found the fairway and that was still better than the swing I put on it. I then nailed a 3-wood perfectly and had a LW into the green on a tricky shot. But, I hit a good one to about 12-feet. Mis-read the putt and made par ( E )
#3: 238 yards to the hole, 3-Hybrid:
(-1)
#4: Hit this drive hard, but pulled it a bit and drew it. I had a shot from 148 yards, but I was under a tree. I punch a 7-iron beautifully to 20-feet. At this point I was hitting everything well except for my driver which is usually a strength. Anyway, not a good putt, but made par (-1)
#5: Kind of a hang back and stall which caused a toe-ish hook. I found the left rough and flushed a 5-iron to 20-feet and 2-putted for par (-1)
#6: Finally I hit a good drive. This one went 320 yards down the middle. I hit a pretty good 3-wood that chased up to the fringe. Chip and a putt and made birdie (-2)
#7: Caught a 4-iron a little chunky, but ended up in decent position. I tried to lengthen the flat spot and 'burn the grass' to get some spin. But, I caught it a little heavy and it hit the flag and popped out and I made par (-2)
#8: Hit this drive pretty well, but pushed it. It found the fairway bunker. I had 160 yards into the green, but the green was down below us and we had a small wind behind us. Normally, I would hit 7-iron here because of the shot being in the bunker, but I hit an 8-iron to the back of the green. This putt I knew was going to double break, but I over-read the first break too much. (-2)
#9: Hit a 2-hybrid off the tee that was just how i wanted (a little draw). Decent S-Wedge that spun back a bit and I 2-putted for par (-2)
#10: Caught this a bit off the toe, but it went well and pretty long right down the middle. I hit a S-Wedge to 12-feet and drained the birdie putt (-3)
#11: Not a great swing and I hit too big of a cut into the right rough. Flushed a 3-wood from the rough right at the target. I tried to extend the 'flat spot' here again to get some spin, but I got a bit choppy and the face turn over a bit and I went long and left. A good birdie putt, but couldn't make it and came away with par (-3)
#12: This was a nice drive down the right side of the fairway up the hill I had 185 yards, but decided to hit a 5-iron instead of a 6-iron because it is an elevated green. I hit a good shot to about 25-feet. Didn't play enough break and made par (-3)
#13: 196 yards, 5-iron:
I don't think I have ever hit two shots this close on a par-3 in the same round (-4)
#14: Big driver down the middle. But, I had a downhill lie and it is a finicky shot. I wasn't mentally prepared for the shot and found the right waste bunker. I then hit a great waste bunker shot, but got robbed on a terrible kick. Decent birdie putt and made par (-4)
#15: An okay driver. I tried to hit a baby draw and I pushed faded it a little. Hit a S-Wedge to 15-feet and made a big breaking putt for birdie (-5)
#16: We then started to get this:
Before the storm I caught this 4-iron a little high on the face and just short of the green. A good chip and a kick in for par (-5)
#17: Thankfully, the storm started to come after this hole. I hit a big driver down the middle and flipped a S-Wedge in there to 4-feet and almost missed the putt, but it snuck in there and made a birdie (-6)
#18: By this time, the wind started to kick in and we had a tail wind. I hit this driver well down the fairway. A 9-iron to 25-feet and a 2-putt for par. We just wanted to get outta there as the lightning was starting to come in:
34-32=66 (-6)
9/14 Fwy
16/18 GIR
28 putts
-8 GIRO SCORE
+28 '15/5 Score'
A great day for golf as this is my lowest score since 2009 at Olde Atlanta. Olde Atlanta has a lower index, although sometimes it can be harder because the greens are very tricky. But, the good thing here is I didn't hit the driver that great and didn't putt that great. However, when I hit the driver well I was hitting it a long ways.
