I'd be grateful for any advice on my options.
I'm currently looking to update my irons (MP53/Project X 5.0). I've changed my swing (hopefully for the better) and my recent trackman statistics are for an 8i (84mph, 5000-5500 spin, 75 feet height). I'm a 7.8 index currently and hopefully trending in the right direction: Yellow/red zone is what is really holding me back currently.
I was hoping to try the following against each other with a multitude of shaft options
- wishon - miura - edel - mizuno - AP 1/2 - pretty open to any others as long as they have thin top line and modest offset
When I inquired around my area, I came up with two (imperfect) options.
One local clubfitter (whom I know and like) has all the OEMs as well as every shaft option. I can certainly go there and compare my clubs vs. all the OEMs. No Edel or Wishon.
The local Wishon fitter doesn't stock any OEMs o Edel (although I can ship him my 6i and he can then add his fitting system to it so I can compare to the wishons and miuras). They are a big believer in dynamic frequency fitting. Seems hard for me to go to Wishon/Miura without a baseline to compare to.
Any thoughts? Both fitter seem highly competent and passionate. Should I just figure out what shaft is best for me and work from there?
Thanks in advance.

I would probably go with the local clubfitter that has all of the OEM's (and I'm a big fan of Wishon and Edel).
I'm not sold on frequency fitting. I did it years ago and after I learned about shaft bend profiles, I found that more preferable.
For me, I would rather have the extra options and find the best fit out of those options.
Do they have Trackman or FlightScope?

Thanks for the advice.
Local guy has flightscope and the Wishon guy uses an ES14 (which i'm not familiar with). They do all of their fittings outdoors though.
Any thoughts on how the 575/560/565 would compare to the MP53s?

The CB version of the 575's compares more closely to the Mizuno's. The MB version of the Wishon 575's has a small cavity back pocket. I think the Wishon 575's compare very well to the Mizuno irons in terms of feel. In terms of design, the MB 575's are probably most closely to the Hogan irons except they 575's are low bounce.
The Wishon 560's are more of a traditional cavity back. Not really a 'player's CB', but not a Game Improvement iron either.

So I went to the local fitter and spent a couple of hours there and his flightscope/GC2 setup (which was cool to compare).
Summary: my stock PXi 5.5 is pretty good with the 5.0 a slightly better fit. The mizuno shaft software only recommended two shafts: KBS X soft stepped once, that shaft weighs 130 g and a NS Pro 1150 stiff hard step once, that shaft weighs 116. Neither was anything special and didn't change my ballflight (which i'm trying to get higher)
Mp53s were consistent with the MP25s as well as the forged JPX. Didn't walk away with anything new which was both surprising and disappointing.....I respect the fitter for not trying to upsell me though.
A few questions:
- My 5 and 6 irons had MOI of 2697 and 2712. We didn't test the other clubs or try to add/subtract MOI on those two but I'd like to hear what others think about the best ways to experiment if there's an optimal level. I don't have a club that I think feels better than others. I am hitting it all over the face. My fitter said that 2700 was right in the middle of the range and didn't think there was reason to change but I noticed that its not that close to what Rich thinks is optimal for him.
- the max height numbers were pretty far off on flightscope (75 ft)vs. GC2 (90 ft). Which do you think would be a better gauge? This was indoors btw and while its hard to tell, they felt low to me.
- GC2 showed that I am a toe-down hitter. My fitter said that there was no reason to change as my ballflight is straight
- any surprises from what I've shared? I'm happy to provide flightscope numbers.
I have free access to Trackman (without a fitter) so I can mess around on my own.
Thanks in advance.
