I won't be in AZ anytime soon... the swing we worked on was very much E2E and I've been hesitant to pursue it on my own. But at this point I might just go for it. This is the same Million $ ? I wonder all the time. Why don't I just stick with Denny? Distance from him makes it seem impossible. As my 2 year love affair with S&T has proven though, every swing seems impossible over time when there is no instructor to turn to. I give you credit Cloran, at least you stick with it. I have turned to Mountain Biking and the occasional Scramble where drinking is involved. I just read about golf now and wait for the snow to come. Keep plugging away, I am cheering you on from afar.

Thx for the kind words. I've never been so utterly frustrated by a game that I believe I can excel at. It had me at hello.

So, it's been quite a while since I posted here... For many reasons. The biggest being that I haven't so much as stepped on a golf course in a year, and I think I've played three rounds in the last two. Shoulder issues, work, new baby, etc... It all adds up and the sum total equals "no golf." I'm going to try and squeeze in some time for myself, and if the shoulders hold up I might be able to play a bit in 2015. I'm hoping to get some feedback on the attached two images. They were taken today at a Golfsmith on Long Island. I was hitting a 6 iron (strong lofts). I have two sets of images, one with my old "full" swing (not shown) and those I attached here which were generated with a smoother 3/4 swing. The dispersion is so much tighter with this swing, albeit 8 yards of carry shorter and 6mph slower on average. If I take out the one swing of this set where I must have really closed the face and swung WAY inside-out (azimuth number is still positive meaning the ball started to the right of the target line, but the ball finished 23 yards left of the target... You do the math, lol) then my average miss is about 30 feet. Not too bad with a 6 iron (cough... 5 iron...), imho. The best thing is the overall shot pattern. All shots were push-draws or straight pushes, with only one ball ending up, left of the desired target. A couple things the numbers scream to me: 1. These clubs (which shall remain nameless for the time being) launch the ball SUPER high! 40 yards on average! 10-15 yards higher than the major tours. 2. These clubs are rather low spin. 4900 rpm is below the lpga and pga tour averages for a 5 iron. Again, I was "technically" hitting a 6 iron, but it's basically a 5 iron loft wise. If I wanted to I could really step on the ball and carry it 190-195, but after just a few my shoulders were killing me and the dispersion began to get horrible. I think I need to keep working on the 3/4 swing (it's really funky looking nutty setup, but seems to work based on the flight pattern) and hope I can hold up. Hitting 10 balls, with 9 staying in a tight pattern, was fun. It's amazing what some of the new irons can do.

Cloran, I think it's pretty obvious that you should stick with the 3/4 swing for now until you can improve on the full swing in practice and then slowly transition to the full swing. I think you'll have more fun playing right now with the 3/4 swing if it is going to be more consistent for you. Remember that it probably won't be 90% consistent on the golf course, but your session shows that it will likely be more reliable than the full swing. Another thing that would point to you using the 3/4 swing would be that you don't want to re-injure yourself so you can keep playing.
Glad to see you back!

Part of me thinks that the 3/4 swing may be beneficial. Perhaps your sequence gets a bit better at 3/4 than full swing. Don't know if you have looked at your swing on camera, but there's always the chance that what feels like 3/4 may actually get to parallel.
The issue I have with going 3/4 is I wonder how long it will last and what other mechanics in the swing are causing you trouble when you try to go full swing.

Meh... Turned out to be less than expected. We got between 18-24" at my house in the middle of LI. Less toward the city. I took these vids yesterday before the range closed for the "stormageddon!"

Curious as to why you're going to more of a Moe Norman set-up position?

A couple of reasons.
I'm having lots of shoulder problems, AC joint specifically. After some experimentation I found that setting up this way helps eleviate some of the pain, particularly in the follow through.
I just don't have much time to play and when I do play I want to keep the ball on the course. There's something about setting up and establishing a plane line at address and then returning to impact on the same line that helps with my consistency. I just can't do that with a conventional setup. I can hit a consistent draw with this setup without much effort at all. I'm not going to try to hit the ball dead straight like Moe, and I have no dillusions that I'll eventually be able to... but I can absolutely hit a draw every time. It will take some practice to learn the proper setup for wedges and woods so I can eliminate the push (wedges) or hook (woods), but I'm pretty close with all the irons.
I'm leaning on Kirk Junge for help, and despite being in the infancy of the instruction, things are going well.

Good to hear.
I used to have AC Joint problems as well (probably still do). Not much fun.
