I added a Ted Sheftic persimmon driver with a S400 shaft into it. Sheftic is apparently a club pro and a clubmaker. The persimmon driver looks like a MacGregor Tourney persimmon. It took awhile to figure out how to hit it, but I finally did. I don't want to give away how I did it, but I applied this to my Titanium driver swing and the results were fantastic.
Yesterday I played #1 and #9 at Eastwood and the first hole is 348 yards from the whites and I hit the persimmon driver flush, but the ball didn't really have a rise to it, but it went straight down the middle. A tourney had just got done and they were playing shotgun and the guys that finished on the 1st hole were driving back and they yell 'great drive!'
I thought that was a little unusual, but figured I probably hit it to 100 yards or so and for them it was a great drive.
So I get to the 100 yard marker and don't see my ball. Then I keep walking...walking...walking and finally I see my ball and I had to pace it off.
67 yards to the middle of the green.
That measures 281 yards, with an old ProV1!
On #9 into the wind I hit a decent driver that went down the middle. I had 151 yards into the green which is approximately a 246 yard drive. Remember, persimmon driver with a steel shaft and an old ProV1.
The wind was a slight cross wind, going slightly with me on #1 and slightly against me on #9.
I don't want to give away what I did because:
1) I want to test it some more to see if it really works 2) I want to test it on Trackman someday 3) I want to see if others who own a persimmon driver can figure it out 4) I want to write about it later on
But it was downright fantastic.
I'm going to be playing 9 holes today with the persimmon and then this weekend I'll probably play 36 holes with the titanium and see how it translates. Very excited.

Thats awesome Rich, sounds like a neat setup.
I've been playing awful recently, contact is inconsistent but I'm hitting sweeping hooks since beginning Module 1, so I decided to order some new equipment and go from there while continuing bag work.
Found a Titleist 975D head almost brand new for $15, going to put an X100 in there and add lead tape, also planning on finding some persimmon fairways to game, perhaps a persimmon driver to tinker with.
I have about zero confidence with the light weight of my current clubs, lead tape should be coming in soon so I can weigh these things down.

Keep at it Slice. Hooking in M1 and M2 is a good thing... M3 will get you going with a fade and you can forget about the left side for good, trust me...

Cloran
Did you see improvement with contact and low point control when working on M2 and M3? I seem to be hitting thin hooks without much of a divot and "fat" hooks with no divot like behind the ball. Ever since trying Bradley Hughes' chipping/pitching techniques, I have improved a lot from 50 yds in, however.

I'd like to say yes, but no.
I've always struggles with low point inconsistency. M1, M2 had me swinging more shallow and fat shots were pretty much gone, but thin was in. I could perform the M2 drill perfectly, but it had yet to make it's way into my swing. I just started this week REALLY focusing on it during my range time.
M3 really helped get rid of the hook, but it's a post impact drill and won't do anything for low point consistency.
I started making good strides with my low point control when I took gmbtempe's advice and changed my address to an "impact fix" set up... reverse K. I combined that with maintaining my head position during the back swing (no swaying back with a weight shift), and the results have been eye opening. Ridiculous really.
I know we're supposed to wait for the modules to work their way in, but when your swing is as crappy as mine is what exactly are they working their way into? lol... I want to strike the ball better now AND work on the modules. I don't see any reason why you can't do both... it's been working nicely for me.
So, in short... no. M1, M2, and M3 didn't help me at all with low point control; but the guys on here did. iteachgolf, 3jack, greg, and others have all helped. I watch iteach's students and my jaw drops... such quick changes. So I took some elements from them, Greg, and 3jack... and the Frankenstein-ish swing I have now is the best it's ever been, lol.

I'll probably be doing some experimenting soon as well.
I get a lot of people asking me about going flat with their irons and what flex of shaft they should use and other things like that. I tell them that if they have some questions or apprehension, just do whatever you are thinking about with just 1 golf club.
For instance, I have yet to bend my Hogan '67 Percussions and there's some things I want to try with the shaft, so I'm going to get the 5-iron bent 6* flat and put a x100 shaft that is 38" long. I'll see how that goes although my plan with my final set of gamers will probably come around after I finish module 5.
One of the things I believe that happened with Hogan is that he generated good clubhead speed early on in his career, but fought the hook. A lot of people talk about how Hogan 'naturally found his swing thru hard work', but I think what more or less happened is that early on he tried to stop the hook with flat lie angles and super stiff shafts (X100 that was tipped 2")
I think what happened was during the time before 'the secret' was discovered he developed an extremely dynamic pivot and hands in order to hit shafts that stiff. Then when he discovered 'the secret', he became an unstoppable ballstriker.
I'm thinking of taking my 67 Percussion 5-iron and doing a similar thing, except I'll probably start with X100 and then gradually get stiffer.
I'll probably wind up gaming the Apex PC's and getting them re-chromed with a satin finish from the Iron Factory.

what is stiffer than an X100 (assuming you are using older shafts) ? Apex 5s are impossible to find...
just curious

You can tip x100s to make them stiffer.

I'm getting the Hogan Percussions bent as we speak. I decided to keep the shafts in them for now. I took my Hogan IPT 5-iron and had them install an X100 shaft. I actually wanted a X300 shaft, but Golfsmith only has up to X100. They said they could tip it 1/4", so it will play like an X200.
The 5-iron will be at 38.00" long (currently at 37.5") and the loft will be a 28* (currently at 30-31*). The iron is already bent flat, at 55* lie angle.
I'll probably pick it up tomorrow or Friday. I will practice with it heavily at first and see how it goes.

Eh, Golfsmith sucks. I wanted to get a new x100 shaft tipped 1/4" at Golfsmith, but they had it in there for a week and with their phone not working, I could only guess when it was done, which meant a 30 minute drive to the place. Finally I said screw it and I'm planning to go elsewhere to a place that is not too far from where I work to get it done. I'm currently seeking the 1967 Hogan Percussion (with a 2.5" hosel) 3-iron and Equalizer. I really love these clubs and I only have the 4-9 iron. I did just buy the 2-iron off of eBay and it looks like it's in fantastic shape. That's about my only problem with Orlando...finding clubmakers. In Atlanta I had 5 within a 5 miles of me and one of them was within walking distance. Things could get done fast and cheap. Now I have to drive at least 30 minutes and hope it gets done sometime before my car depreciates completely in value. 3JACK

I finally found a clubmaker. He's about 15 minutes from my work. I sent my IPT 5-iron with the shaft to him.....and GolfSmith's gave me the wrong shaft. Not even sure what flex it is. It wasn't a 5-iron shaft and it was parallel tipped. But I told him it was for practice and I wanted a super stiff shaft. Amazingly no smart ass remarks and he was interested in what I was doing. So we are going to drill the club to make it .370 and tip it a ton, like 3". It will still be 38.0" long though, just tree trunk stiff.
Awesome.

Got the PC5 2-iron today. Awesome condition. Looks very slightly used. Amazing shape for a club made back in 1967. Tomorrow I should get the IPT 5-iron with the super stiff shaft.

Here’s a look at the latest set I picked up off of ebay. I paid more than I wanted to pay at $125 because I really wanted the 3-iron and PW. But I figure at least I have another set of PC5’s that I can use as my ‘guinea pig’ set. I plan on experimenting mostly with shafts and lofts. My Hogan IPT 5-iron had a X100 installed and it was tipped 3”, so it’s super duper stiff. I also changed the loft from 31* to 28*. I was a bit skeptical about the loft and shaft change, but they’ve worked out well because I have no problem hitting either one. In fact, the shot dispersion is noticeably tighter with the super stiff shaft, but it appears I lose about 1-2 clubs of distance with these. I hope to get on Trackman soon and experiment with my different 5-irons and see what the results are. I figure I’m at least 4-5 months away with hard work to feel like my swing is at a point where I should start getting clubs designed for 2011 tournament play. I pretty much insist on getting a driver fitted thru Trackman, but I want to take a look at the Wishon drivers and I’m working on a way to find some Wishon dealers who have access to Trackman. I’ll probably be buying an Edel putter, although I’d rather get a lesson with David Orr first and have him fit me for it. I plan on getting the Vari-loft putter. Wedges? Probably some Scratch wedges since I need something that is forged given my flat lie angles. 3-wood will probably wind up being similar to the driver. 3JACK

I got the PC irons in today, but almost all of them are the 1966 iron heads. I have the '67 iron heads.
The difference?
The '66 irons have a 3.0" hosel vs. the 2.5" hosels in the '67 irons. The '66 irons have a wider sole and the head looks a little more round vs. the '67 irons.
But, the Equalizer (pitching wedge) is a '67 PC5 iron. I think when I 'game' my clubs I'll probably stick with the setup of Driver, 3-wood, 3-hybrid, 4-PW, GW, SW, LW. So I probably won't use the 3-iron much.
