I'd bet it will be fine. They are cast, but it's a real soft metal... 8620 I think.

Two new items added to the bag today. I've been hunting for these for a while, and as luck would have it I got them both on the same day. 1: Adams Peanut (version 1) 24* hybrid. I only purchased the head and will most likely put one of my TT DG X200s in it. I needed an open faced head and these things are nasty by all accounts. 2: Titleist 585H 21* Hybrid w/ TT DG S300 steel shaft. I'll just butt trim this one to length and slap on a grip. Good to go. I have played Mizuno Fli-Hi 3 and 4 irons (both the MP and non-MP versions) for a while now and as much as I liked the MP's I could use some help from more challenging lies, rough, and a higher flight overall. I almost pulled the trigger on the Adams PNT last year but hesitated and just stuck things out with the Mizuno irons. For the 21* I wanted something a little bigger in a head, but not as big as a fairway wood... and again, I wanted an open face. The 585H fits the bill. I'll be hitting the 585H a lot off the tee on my home turf and I figured it would be easier to have a little bigger head. My set up now: Driver, 3wood, 3h, 4h, 5i-PW, GW, SW, LW, putter... I need to regrip my irons (still have the old/vintage grips on them and I launched my 8i 50 yards down the range on friday... way too slippery in the heat). I like the Tacki-Mac Itomics, but I may try something new to mix it up a little.

Being that my 8i and 9i heads snapped off last friday I was in need of new clubs. Reshafting the broken clubs isn't easy because I have no clue what shafts they are, lol. I may reshaft the entire set, but that's a winter job. I made a trip to my Parent's house over the weekend. Digging through my Dad's work shed I found a set of clubs I had given him. He's not a golfer... The set was originally given to me by my Grandmother when my Grandfather passed (My Dad's Dad). She gave them to me 20 years ago as I was the only athelete in the family and figured I'd like them. Spaulding Execitive irons. These are the clubs I played with until I bought my first set about 8 years ago. I gave them to my Dad just so he would have a set available should he get invited to play somewhere. He never touched them. Now I have them back... things have gone full circle. I'm playing the best golf of my life, and I believe I have a good chance to finally break 80 for the 1st time... with my Grandpa's old set. My 1st set of clubs. How many people can say that? I went to the range this morning to try out the "new" old Spauldings... it's little wonder why I stuck with Baseball.
These things are rediculously harsh on miss hits. If you don't know what to adjust in order to hit the sweet spot (like I didn't when I was 13 yrs old) then you are in for a world of hurt. The first few balls were hit maybe 1/2" towards the toe and my hands vibrated like when you'd hit a baseball off the handle of the bat... in 30* weather.
The more I got the feel for them the better the results. By the time I left I was hitting the ball very solid. These are at least 4* more upright than my old gamers so that took some getting used to. A lot of straight pulls at first.
These irons have no hosel... or at most a tiny one that just flows into the shaft, and I'm not sure if I can bend them. I believe they are cast, too.
They are HEAVY as all get out which once I started flushing it made for a nice, high, FAR trajectory. Zero wind this morning and I was hitting a high push-draw to 160 with the 9i. Not too shabby.
I also noticed that there was much less curvature in my shots. On miss hits I could move it pretty far right to left (actually left-to-lefter as the misses were pulls), but on solid shots my push-draw moved MAYBE 2 yards. I suppose this may be due to being cavity-backs as opposed to the muscle-backs that I've gotten used to.
Overall: A very unforgiving iron that I think will serve me well. The increased weight allows me to swing smoother and get a better ball flight than what I had to do with my previous set.

Given the things I'm trying to do with my swing I just can't practice with the Executives... too much offset, too upright. So today I picked up these little ladies. I got scolded by my wife seeing as it's 5 days before Christmas, but I figure it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Not this specific set, but a 8/10 verison... as close to mint as I need (ie, can afford). [if you want to see the actual set just click here: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=120661323348&si=WHFdNvnONyhpDXfodPO4lOG2QbA%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT ] 4i-PW with DGTT S400 shafts. I saw the set come up on ebay and there was no way I was letting them go. It's rare to find a set in this good of a condition with S400s in them. Standard length, loft, lie. I'll check the swing weights and most likely butt trim the 1/2". If the swing weights come back at D2 or under then I'll probably figure out some way to bring them up a bit. I'd like to get them to D5 or D6, but I don't want to cover them in tape so I'll probably get some lead powder and take care of that while I'm shortening them. I'm psyched!! I've been practicing a bit with an MP37 5iron and love the buttery feel. From everything I've read the MP14s are just as nice, if not better. The only rival in the eye of many is the set R3J picked up... the TN-87s. I've said this a few times this year, but THIS may be the set that stays in my bag for a long time.

A really fine set of irons. I prefer the MP 29's and the TN 87's just because of the looks are slightly more to my liking. The MP 29's I believe have slightly less offset, slightly thinner top line and more of a square toe along with stronger lofts. But the MP 14's are great...just a matter of preference.

They weren't the ones in the pic... almost exactly as clean as the ones I picked up off ebay. 8/10-ish. I picked up my set for $175, shipping included.

Pretty much equal seeing as I only play the 4i-PW anyhow, lol. I could use the extra .8mm on the 4i and 5i for sure. The 14s have less bounce than the 29s. I don't think that will matter too much as the last few sets I've bagged had virtually no bounce- with SHARP leading edges. I'm not so much of a "digger" now that I'm trying to get on a more shallow plane. The lofts are 2* weaker on the 14s with the 4i and 5i... but only 1* weaker on the 6i, 7i and 8i... then back to 2* weaker on the 9i, and PW. mizunousa.com/equipment.nsf/retclubs?OpenForm&Seq=30

Sweet, didn't know Mizuno had a web page on retired clubs.
The MP-14's were usually the player's choice back in the 90's. I know Tiger used the MP-29's in college. Part of the problem was the cost as the MP-29's were a bit more expensive than the MP-14's.

They don't, at least not anymore.
If you search for "retired" or "retired irons" on their website you end up with bupkis. The page has been banished to the depths of the dark internet.
I was able to dig up this old link and thankfully Mizuno hasn't deleted the content. Although, even then (in theory) the page should be able to be found...
