Wow, just checked the lofts and lies compared to the 63's I just ordered, pretty amazing, basically you can take off one club for each iron on the 63's and you get the 14's. The lies have also been increased.
They recommended 2 degrees up when I fitted but I told them I wanted standard, looks like I got 2 degrees with the changes from the 14's.
So if everyone has done the same when you hear he is hitting 7 iron and they all gush because its from 200 its the same as saying he is hitting 6 iron if we were in 1995.

More upright lies, stronger lofts, lighter/bigger heads, longer/lighter shafts, perimeter weighting... *sigh* ... where has that brought us?

I can hit a 7 iron farther than you!!!
Of course I'm joking, but that's really what all this shit has come down to...

I think it comes down to sales, if they can get joe blow into the simulator and they hit it further then its the golden goose for them. When I shopped last week I took my current 7 iron so I had a real baseline.

I spent some time in the garage tonight adjusting the specs on my MP14s. Here's the stats:
Club / Loft / Lie / Swing Weight / Length
Driver 11* 58* D3 43" 3w 15* 58* D3 41" 2h 18* 56* ? 40" 3h 22* 56* ? 38.5" 4i 26* 56* D3 38.25" 5i 29* 56* D3 37.75" 6i 32* 57* D3 37.25" 7i 36* 57* D3 36.5" 8i 40* 58* D4 36" 9i 44* 58* D4 35.75" PW 48* 59* D5 35.5" GW 53* 60* D0 34.5" SW 58* 60* D0 34.5"
I need to up the swing weights on EVERYTHING! I want to get the irons to D5 or D6, with the shorter irons 9i, GW, SW at E2 or E3. I didn't have a swing weight scale when I bought the wedges and they are WAYYYYY too light. I'll probably poor some lead powder down the shafts, cork them, and be done with it. As far as the irons go, I'll most likely add some tape. I'd hate to do that though. I have some tip weights on order so I can always pull the shafts and reinstall them with the tip weights if I feel up for it.
The two hybrids I currently have worked well with my last few sets, but they aren't the correct lofts now. While it sucks to be back on the market for two hybrids, there is good news. The 24* Adams peanut version 1 is always in demand, and the 21* is a 585h from Titleist... also a good seller. I'd love to get two Adams peanuts (v1 or v2). I fell in love with my 24*. If I can find an 18* and a 22* would be perfect.
The driver isn't going anywhere, but I'd like to get the swing weight up a few points. Same with the 3w.

Here's my review of my "new" MP14s. As if the internet needed another one, lol. I went to the range for a little bit today. I hit every club, PW-4i. They are absolutely, positively, fatastic! Super soft feel, great trajectory, and even friendly on mis-hits. I had no problem hitting the 4i high and long. The shorter clubs (PW-8i) were so much fun to hit. There's something going on with my swing because despite the flat lies and short length I was hitting mostly high push draws. Not that I'm complaining, but I figured I'd be hitting mostly baby fades. The shafts were great too. I'm sure I can handle X100's but the S400s got the ball up high and I loved it. No ballooning or floating either. The ball still had a nice trajectory, but a higher apex than I had expected. For anyone that looks at these irons and thinks "Blades? I can't hit those... they are so unforgiving..." think again. I didn't really chunk or top any balls, but I got plenty of feedback when I missed one even a little bit. The ball still flew fantastic though, that's what I want. What else can I say about these clubs that hasn't already been said? I won't be able to get them in play anytime soon, but judging by their 1st range session they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I had so much fun hitting them. Towards the end I started to get tired and should probably have walked away 10 or 15 balls sooner but I was really enjoying things. I am still going to play around with the swing weights. I was so pleasently surprised today that I don't think I'll go to the lead powder right away. I'll use some tape first, see how that effects the ball flight and go from there. Club distance notes from the session: (edit: I should note there was a slight tail wind, 5mph or so) PW 145-150 9i 155-160 8i 165-170 7i hard to tell with no flag in this range, but probably 175-180 6i 180-190 5i 190-200 4i 200-210

Good to hear. The MP-14's are a really solid club. IIRC, before the club endorsement contracts became more stringent, Mizuno was the most used irons on Tour for 10 years straight.

I have the fourteens and they just are solid, I know the 32/33's get a lot of play as Mizuno's best but having gamed both I just think the fourteens are a better club.

The John Byron putter came in today. I was VERY surprised to see an awesome Byron Morgan headcover with it. It also came without the grip installed because I was thinking of putting a Baby-T grip on it as I do with all my putters. However, the grip that was in the box seemed nice enough, and very close to the black Baby-T grip that I like. The grip is a "Byron" Lamkin. I blacked-out the name "Byron" and slapped it on the putter... I really like it. A hair smaller than the Baby-T, but that's not all so bad. It feels really nice. Attachments:
