I read an interesting comment the other day - good tempo is 3:1 i.e. the backswing takes say 0.75 of a sec and the downswing 0.25...
I measured mine and my backswing is so slow I could write this post before impact!
What's your timing?
Tip - take a video clip of your swing and count how many frames in a sec. Then measure frames from start to finish of backswing and then start of downswing to impact. Multiple by the speed of a frame and you have baskswing and downswing in seconds...
I checked it out apparently average tour pro is 0.74:0.24...

I was using the mac program Swing-It Magistern to edit my swing video and it will measure your tempo (ratio) for you if you go through the process of marking your positions (P1, P2, etc.) Mine seemed to be around 2.75:1, but it really depends on how accurately you mark your end and impact positions, IMO. I've also read the book Tour Tempo and downloaded the iPhone application. I think there's maybe some merit to the theory, mainly because it helps those who already have really bad tempo and because it gets your mind off of any potentially negative swing thoughts. If you've read The Inner Game of Golf, there are similar techniques to get your mind off of potentially detrimental swing thoughts which I have found to help a bit while at the range. Haven't used it on the course yet, and have only used Tour Tempo at home so far. ETA: Swing it Magistern

I have Tour Tempo as well, it seems crazy fast but I have been studying the hand speed aspect of the swing and realize that most people are not accelerating to fast but out of sequence. I have to get my swing faster from top to impact because my body is outracing the hands.
