In another post on this forum called TGM Cheers there was a discussion about driver shafts... I explained I felt mine was too long. I've taken action and cut it down 2". I've fitted a new grip - the lightest one I could find at my local range shop - cost me 50 pence... I shall let you know what my experiment on shorter shafts provides inthe way of results... watch this post. www.twitpic.com/11ie7i

Update on my drastic driver shaft DIY! I found that I hit the ball just fine - it was not a miracle or anything - they didn't all suddenly go dead straight and longer. But, I found the club much more manageable. It's hard to judge distance because of the cold... but I don't think I've lost any length as a result of cutting off 2 inches. I tried my driver up against two of my playing colleagues and it is now just standard length i.e. same as my playing partners at 43.5" so it was obviously long before I started. It did feel a little lighter as you'd expect - but it didn't feel I lost control at the top or anything - will take a video to check out top of swing position.
It was funny, on the last hole I was talking to my partner about the fact I'd lobbed off these two inches and I'd compared my club to his. I then turned to one of the other players who had not been listening and asked him what he thought i.e. I said something like do you notice anything about this club...? He said "Oh yes - it's shorter isn't it - feels like a 3 wood." We then compared it to his driver. Which was exactly the same length... go figure?!

About 12 grams of lead tape on the head and the driver should be back to the same swingweight as before.
