This is a friend of mine's swing.
I see an open club face (toe points down at the top), pivot stall (hips square at impact), and a flip (club lines up with the right arm at impact.) Any thoughts on what to work on first?

Where do you start?
At the beginning.
Seriously right at the take away he sets himself up for all the faults that precede later.
The VERY first thing I would work on would be maintaining his inclination to the ground from p1 - p4
The club gets snatched inside and then underplane then lifted, then over the top then...........etc.; however if you look at his actual arm stroke path it is really good. The constant changes in thealignments of the club shaft and head have to do with the constant changes in his shoulder tilts.
Look at the change in his spines inclination to the ground just from p1-p2, he goes from fairly bent over to nearly standing erect almost instantly. By the time this fault carries over to p4 you can see he has no choice but to hump the goat on his downswing. Look how much closer his backside is to the ball impact than it was at address.
If you fix that a LOT will go smoother from there on out.
I always like to start at the earliest phase I see things progressing awkwardly, because everything after that point is a poison well, it just becomes bandaids on bandaids at a certain point. Start fixing the roots.

Just my opinion. From the DTL view, his takeaway is that of a reverse-slot swinger; absolutely nothing wrong with that .... Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, etc. If that's what he likes, don't change it. Jim Mclean talks about it here .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E6Mu6Y556sIf he does decide to go with a reverse-slot swing, his downswing plane/path should go over his upswing plane, but it should still be coming from the inside. The Mclean video shows the proper form for a reverse-slot swing. The face on view looks like a reverse pivot at the top of the backswing, with his head leaning towards the target. I don't know if that's really what's happening, as it could be the angles and the darkness. If that is happening, I'd recommend a more weight-shift right in the backswing, and if he wanted to, he could still have that centered look, ala Tiger when he was winning majors ..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=nESDTgMck0UEasiest recommendation, ofcourse, would be to see a good pro.

That face just looks super wide open to me, if he did not flip it I bet he would hit it miles to the right.

ef425, btw, just in case, if your friend didn't ask your help for his swing, don't give it. The worst thing anyone can do in golf is give unasked advice, LOL!
