As some of you may know already, I was contacted by a publishing company about 2011 PGS, but given the time crunch I felt it was a smarter idea to not pursue that avenue for right now.
Also, part of the issue was not only did I just start the research in May of this year, but some of the metrics, like Putt Gained...were not available until the middle of this year. Here are some thoughts I have had on future PGS editions:
1. Better formatting of the rankings in various metrics.
2. Each player analysis gets their own page(s) with small graphs showing their play in certain metrics over the course of the year. This way I can better display a golfer like Rickie Fowler, who got off to an awful start with his driver and wound up improving quite a bit over the year, but due to the awful start he only ranked about 'average' on Tour in Advanced Total Driving.
3. A look at each tournament winner and their metrics for that tuornament. This will be difficult in some cases because if a winner is not on the Tour (i.e. McIlroy winning the US Open), then there's not much I can do there. But, I think we will get most of the tournament winners.
There is some other stuff I want to do, particularly with factoring in clubhead speed and max height into some type of formula. I also want to get into predicting future success (or lack thereof) for golfers...even if it's not entirely accurate, if it provides a decent ballpark I would be happy with that.
I am also interested in going throu each course played on Tour and see if I can determine what type of play attributes the course favors. Where the Shell in Houston is a good example...big time bombers course (and Mickelson won there in 2011, despite a rough start to the year).
As far as the amateur side, I'm looking for better ways to gauge what the average amateur does based on their handicap. Perhaps a 5 handicapper is more likely to struggle with their Danger Zone play than a 12 handicapper who is more likely to struggle with the putter whereas a 20 handicapper is more likely to have the biggest issue with the driver.
