Course: Legends @ Orange Lake
Ball: Bridgestone B330-s
Stimp: 9.5
Final day of golf and it was a little toasty out there. I had heard good things about Legends at Orange Lake which is down by the Wide World of Sports. Practically nobody out there and we zipped thru in no time...partially because I played really well.
#1 - Little off the toe with the driver, but in okay shape. Choked up on a PW and stuck it to about 10-feet and made the birdie putt (-1)
#2 - Decent driver that went into the rough. Crushed a 3-wood that almost found the green. Eagle chip hit the flag and I made the birdie (-2)
#3 - Flushed a 4-iron right at the flag and it went about 15-feet bye. Had the read on the putt, but left it just short and made par (-2)
#4 - This is one of those drives you have to cut over a corner and I hit mine well, but started it a little left of the corner and it drew into the waste bunker. Good shot out of the waste bunker with a hybrid. I then flopped a LW to 6-feet, but missed the birdie (-2)
#5 - Good drive down the middle. I flushed a 7-iron that went to the front fringe and then drilled a 30-footer for birdie (-3)
#6 - Pushed a 5-iron right of the green. This was a hard chip, but I got it to 5-feet and saved the par (-3)
#7 - Pretty good driver down the middle. I pushed a 5-iron right of the green a little bit. Not the easiest up and down, but not the hardest. SW checked up on me and left it short. I just missed the par save (-2)
#8 - Good driver down the middle followed by a good 3-wood. I then hit a flop from 60 yards with my SW to about 8-feet. This would have been a good putt to make, but I missed and made par (-2)
#9 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a 9-iron to about 5-feet and drained the birdie (-3)
#10 - Best drive of the day so far down the middle. Choked up with a 9-iron and hit it to about 25 feet. Difficult putt, but I got it close and made par (-3
#11 - Another good drive down the middle. But I was left with a funky lie as my ball was like in the middle of a small bowl. So I hit a very low liner. I then hit a SW pin high, but with a tough putt and 2-putted for par (-3)
#12 - Hit the green with a slightly pulled 8-iron. Then hit almost a perfect putt, but it wound up just short and made par (-3)
#13 - Hit a driver well, but it took an awful kick left and almost went into the hazard. I had 158 and was planning to hit a 9-iron, but the lie was so bad that I took out a choked up 8-iron. I then decided to aim left of the pin to play it safely and instead I flagged it to about 3-feet and made birdie (-4)
#14- Slightly pull with a 3-wood, but I flew the bunker and was in perfect shape. Hit a flushed SW to 12-feet and just missed the birdie (-4)
#15 - Badly pulled 9-iron. I hit a provisional thinking it went into the water. It didn't go into the water and instead went into the pot bunker where I had a horrible lie and I was able to get out it and off the green. Chip and a putt to save bogey (-3)
#16 - Good driver down the middle followed by a so-so SW to 15-feet and drained the birdie (-4)
#17 - Probably should not have hit driver here, but it wasn't hit well enough to carry the waste bunker and it hit the waste bunker and kick out of it. I then hit a flop SW to 12-feet. Another good putt that just missed (-4)
#18 - Pretty good 3-wood down the middle. I didn't notice how far in the water came off to the left and I hooked one to the back left of the green, dangerously close to the water. Then a really good putt to a foot and made par (-4)
THOUGHTS: Great way to end the golf stay-cation which overall was a great time with friends, golf and food.
As my friend Paul said, my misses are much more playable and predictable now. I think I only hit one bad toe-hook off the tee the entire time. And I wound up being -3 for the last 90 holes of golf, 72 holes I had never played before.
I think equipment wise I'm at a very good place now, I just need to get some lower spinning shafts in my irons and get more used to the Edel wedges.
The great thing about this round is it easily could have been 65 or a 64. Now, that's golfing your ball.
