Played MetroWest today to help prepare for the FSGA Am. It was pretty breezy, but a beautiful day out. Greens were in awful shape. They are trying to prepare for the US Open local qualifier there, but they had better get some rain soon.
#1 - Hooked a driver down the left side. Hit a choked up 7-iron to 15-feet, just missed the putt and made par (E)
#2 - low draw to the left side of the fairway. PW to 12-feet. Lipped out the birdie putt and made par (E)
#3 - Hooked a 4-iron. Made a really nice flop to 5-feet, but just missed and made bogey (+1)
#4 - Pull draw well left. Hit a 3-wood nicely, but wound up with a rough lie on the approach and hit it short. Chipped on and missed a 7-footer for par (+2)
#5 - Push-cut down the right side. Hit a choked up PW nicely, but it was to the back of the green with the pin up front. First putt has the speed, but never quite broke. Made the 6-foot save. (+2)
#6 - Another low-draw that stuck into the fairway bunker. Got it out pretty well, but short of the green. Good pitch to 6-feet, but mis-read the putt and made bogey (+3)
#7 - Finally, a good drive down the middle. I then hit a driver off the deck to 10-feet. My playing partners just about shit themselves. I then missed the eagle putt (broke a ton), but made the birdie (+2)
#8 - flushed a 7-iron to 15-feet. 2-putted for par (+2)
#9 - Another low draw, but this went quite a ways with the wind behind us. Tried to hit a High LW, but the shot went well past the pin. Great putt that just missed and made par (+2)
#10 - Hit this driver well, but it never drawed for me and it missed right and just out of the bunker. Hit a hybrid well from a funky lie. Then hit a PW to 5-feet and made birdie (+1)
#11 - Another low draw that hit the fairway bunker and bounced out. Hit a pretty good flop with a SW to 12-feet, but missed the birdie putt (+1)
#12 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a SW to 15-feet. This was a super tough pin placement and I lipped out...but then the ball rolled 3-feet away. Made the 3-footer (+1)
#13 - Push right with the driver. Had 'too good of a lie' in the bermuda rough. Hit this well, but pushed it. Chipped to 5-feet, but missed the par putt (+2)
#14 - Snap-hook with the driver. Hit another driver off the deck, but steered it right. Then did my Bubba impersonation and hooked a PW onto the green. Pretty good 2-putt for par (+2)
#15 - Hit a 4-iron a little thin, but found the green. 2-putted for par (+2)
#16 - Good drive down the left side. The pin was tucked in the back right and I wanted to make some birdies and decided to be aggressive and hit a choke-up 7-iron that I thought I hit perfect, but I was about a yard off and it kicks right. Chip to a foot and a kick-in for par (+2)
#17 - Ugly hybrid short. Decent pitch to 6-feet, but missed the par save (+3)
#18 - Good driver down the left side. Bailed out on a 7-iron. Tough bunker shot hit to 10-feet, but missed the par save (+4)
THOUGHTS: I think the good news is that I played in a 5-hour round, struggled with the driver and still hit 11 greens and shot 76 on awful greens and windy weather. My swing was off today, although it didn't look too bad on camera when I hit balls afterward. I think I'm understanding this course more and more.
