I don't have a problem with Gretzky being on the cover. I am a little worried that her outfit may turn off female golfers and come off as intimidating to them.
What golf really needs to do is make the best concerted effort to get females in the game. That will allow the men more time on the course and children more time on the course.
To me, where GD screwed up is that they should have used Gretzky and let her give the rub to one of the LPGA players. For instance, have Gretzky and Paula Creamer or Lexi Thompson on the cover together. Have her in regular golf apparel to not intimidate the women (one of the reasons why Jennifer Aniston is so popular with females is she doesn't intimidate them so much).
I think just having an LPGA golfer on the cover doesn't work because most don't know these girls are. Mainly because the LPGA has done a horrendous job of marketing the product the last 20 years. I think Gretzky's mass appeal helps and with somebody like Lexi or Creamer with her on the cover can turn many women onto the game.
