My old man had a rain check for 9-holes that he wasn't going to use, so he gave it to me. I'm playing 18 holes tomorrow with a bunch of golfers that I usually play 1-2 times a week when the weather is better. We put $11 each in the pot, I'll go into that in tomorrow's post, but I wanted some warmup since I haven't played a ton of golf lately.
Anyway, I'm still working on a CP release, not over-accelerating the hands, 'saving the right arm' and flattening out that shoulder turn. They basically all run together and I'm swinging further left and hitting a lot better shots.
I'm also using the Hogan IPT's, which I hit about 1 club or so shorter than the Mizuno's (the Hogan's are 1/2" shorter than standard and about a 1" shorter than the Mizzy's).
#1 - I hit two drives because I was golfing by myself and didn't see the first one go, but I hit it wayy off the toe and figured that couldn't be good. Then the second drive I hit well down the right side.
Good news, first tee shot is nicely down the left side of the fairway. I have about 180 with an elevated green, so I hit a nice 4-iron into the middle of the green. 2 putt from 40 feet (E0
#2 - 4-iron from 180 to about 20 feet. Read the AimPoint AimChart and knocked in the birdie. Love making a 2 on the course. (-1)
#3 - Pretty good drive than drew a little too much and found the left rough. Could've gone for the green in 2, but I like hitting my irons on the course so I pulled out another 4-iron and hit that well to about 50 yards to the pin. Gotta work on my non-full wedge shots once I get the swing more to where I want it. Good putt from 20 feet that was going thru a saddle and made par (-1).
#4 - Terrible tee shot that I got away with as it wound up on the cart path. An easy hole that I struggle way too much with. Pulled the 9-iron approach slightly and the pin was in a swail and I wasn't in the swail. Almost made the putt and tapped in for par.
I'll probably go into my 'new' putting routine and talk about why it has helped my putting. (-1)
#5 - small pull draw with a 7-iron. I do think these Hogan's are slightly too upright for me which I think is a good sign because that means my downswing is probably flattening out. (-1)
#6 - tough hole now because you have to hug the creek on the right instead of playing it left and letting it roll right. that left me with a downhill lie from 175 to an elevated green. Crappy 4-iron well short of the green, nice chip, but couldn't make the 15 footer for par. Yes a pitch that left me 15 feet away was good, because the pin was in ridiculous position like they were on every hole because obviously somebody pissed in the pin setter's cereal this morning. (E)
#7 - wind started gusting and this is probably 10* colder than any place in the course because you have a hill creating shade throughout the entire hole. Hit a good 7-iron, but it went short. Vertical hinged a SW and put it to 3 feet, made the putt. Nice up-n-down. (E)
#8 - Wiped a driver and found myself in the right fairway bunker which is a very tough bunker to hit out of. Knocked my next shot into the greenside bunker. Then hit to 12 feet (way too much sand in the bunkers right now) and hit the first putt way too hard and made the 3 footer coming back. (+1)
#9 - Hit a very good, powerful drive. Unfortunately I had a small pull draw and it wound up in the fairway bunker. Knocked a 7-iron out that went really well and left me 132 into the pin (it's a par-5). Hit an 8-iron (green is elevated) and knocked it to 15 feet. I must've been on the fall line because the putt probably didn't break more than 1 inch. I had me at 5 o'clock and Aimchart said about 7-8" of break. (+1)
Score: 36 (+1)
GIR: 6/9
Fwy: 2/6
Putts: 16
Scramble: 1/3
