I wrote this on a thread over at ABS---i thought you guys might get a kick out of it here---the original thread was about bending your clubs flat...
Working and bending and measuring with an old-time pro is just a priceless way to spend some time. Sooner than later, these guys will be gone and the knowledge goes with them. Hoganut and I are lucky to have our buddy Hank spend time with us, bending, measuring, looking, re-bending...
I didn't really hear him say this, but he might be thinking..."I don't care what the L/L machine says, that thing has to go down one more!"
There was one club that was being a bit stubborn, so Hank pokes his head out and asks "Is this club replaceable?" LOL classic
We got them all done...we had clubs laying EVERYWHERE! We were taking notes on all the loft and lie angles, and I had a few of my own wedges to bend as well...
The swingweight scale was on the counter where people were trying to pay for beers...
The L/L machine was on another counter...people coming and going; they probably thought we were all crazy!
It was just a great morning...But I think the coolest part (and I know Hoganut will agree) was watching Hank HAVE FUN doing this kind of work...I swear he had a twinkle in his eye and a shit-eating grin the entire time...I had him go flat with my Hagens a year or 2 ago...I was allowed to watch and said-"wow, a rather tedious process"
His response was telling. He said, "well, I'm out of practice; I used to to this 5 or 10 times a week- these Hagens are the first clubs I have bent for in over 10 years"
Hoganut was the second one! A great day!
As an aside-
If Hank had told Hoganut to try a stiffer shaft, he might have done it in a minute, but when some know-nothing hacker like me tries to talk about "stiffer is better", we find how hardheaded a man can be! Well my friend, tell the folks how long it took me to get you to even try it...
(He plays Apex 4s now LOL)
