I am thinking about replacing my Mizuno MPT wedges, they have about 2 years on them and I can start to see some serious groove deterioration as I hit lots of balls and practice a lot.
I think I know the direction I want to go so its not really a question of the what but when I get my new wedges in (3 in total) I am thinking that I should not practice much with the wedges and just them for in play because they are not cheap and I think the amount I practice likely will result in yearly replacement.
Does anyone else practice with one set of wedges but play with another? Is it a reasonable idea?

I know a bunch of mini-tour pros that have 'practice wedges' around here in Orlando. But they are getting them at a discount or free and they practice their wedge game incessently. I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Most of the practice with wedges is controlling the carry, the trajectory and hitting sand shots and flop shots. I'm not sure I've ever cared if a wedge spins on the practice range.
