Just saw this on the MyGolfSpy.com Web site. www.mygolfspy.com/forged-cb-irons/A couple of weeks ago I was at Golfsmith (man, I do miss the PGA Tour Superstore, which the closest one is in Ft. Myers, 3 hours away). I’ve been a fan of MacGregor for a long time. The best driver I ever had was a metal MacGregor Muirfield driver. Anyway, when GolfSmith took over MacGregor I was a bit depressed to see that happen. But then I saw that Golfsmith has 1020 carbon steel with KBS shafts as the stock shafts and I was intrigued. I also saw their wedges and thought they looked nice as well (although I think the wedges are made from 1025 carbon steel). Finally I got to hit them, albeit indoors into a net, and was impressed. Here the irons tested out the best performance wise and really blew away the competition as far as accuracy goes. I found it funny that they got docked for looks and feel. They look more than nice to me and the other irons use a harder carbon steel So I get the impression that the problem MyGolfSpy has is that people look at the club and already predetermine what looks and feels the best based off of the brand. 3JACK

I see they had the 53's #1...........honestly I did a lot of testing this weekend and the 63's are just a better iron. I don't know if they put them into a different category. I would be nervous being a good player with the amount of offset the 53's had.

Jeff Sheets at it again...
"The legendary VIP irons became the first iron model that Bill Totten oversaw the design work on with help from his teammate David Cersley and an overall design guidance from Golfsmith's Brandon Ortwein. Kudos to a great looking set. The heads are forged out of a soft 1020 carbon steel with the cavities 100% CNC milled for precise geometric layout, face thicknesses and weight distribution. The irons launch in April 2010."

I would love to see a new set of VIP MB Blades. Maybe in 2011?

I think you can get a new set of 3-PW MacGregor VIP's with the KBS shafts for $699. Compare that to other major OEM sets at 3-PW with Dynamic Gold at $899 or $999, that's a great deal. And most companies use 1025 carbon steel and if you want KBS, it costs extra often times (I think Mizuno doesn't have an upcharge for KBS, the others I'm not so sure.).
I wish they would've tried the Scratch Golf AR-1. The EZ-1's are more game improvement-ish from what I see. Their loft was also 1.25* weaker than the average loft tested. I agree with MGS, performance is what should really matter. Outside of the Tour Edge irons (which are still made from 1025 carbon steel), none of the non-big name OEM's fared well in the looks and feel category which tells me that there's a brand bias. I'd love to see more of a blind test someday when it comes to looks and feel. Even if it cancels out every club, that would be interesting in itself.
