Here's my idea...
I have my eyes on a set of Mizuno MP-14 irons at my local Golfsmith. They have S300u shafts, but I was looking for X100s. They are standard length.
I like to play my irons shorter than today's standard, usually 3/4" shorter. Since the "u" on the S300u shafts means they are "unitized" and parallel tip I should just be able to remove the heads, trim the tip, put the head back on ... and voila'... I get a flex that is approximately the same as x-100 and the length I want.
Sounds easy enough. You guys see any problems with my idea?

No. Should be good to go. And I don't think you have to trim from the tip too much to get them to X100 either.

If you trim 0.5 inch you will end up with shafts that are approximately 1 subflex stiffer.
I see no problems with your approach but am not sure that the actual flex will be as stiff as x100's.

I'm figuring it would be right inbetween s and x-flex if I take 1/2" off and pretty darn close to x-flex if I go a full 3/4"...
Thinking about it a little more, 3/4" may be just right for me what I'm looking for. S300s tend to launch the ball really high for me, especially from the 6i on down... but any time I've played around with x100's I feel like the flight is TOO penetrating and low.
Thanks guys.

Now you just need a shaft frequency analyzer 3JACK

And a wife that has forgotten about the loft/lie machine purchase. I'm not sure what it's like in LI, but I'd try to offer a bending service for the irons. Charge $4 a club, probably recoup your money after a short while. In Orlando, it's really weird, particularly on the east side. Not many clubmakers will bend clubs. Then you likely have to go to Golfsmith's which could take days if not a week. Atlanta was different mainly because you had the PGA Tour Superstores and they could bend those in a pretty quick turnaround time, usually no longer than a day. I plan on getting my own in January. When I do I'll probably see if I can set something up with the golf club so I can just post a note saying I can bend clubs. For me, I'll probably get my machine brand new and that will cost $500. I figure at $4 a club, I basically need to bend about 15 sets of irons to break even. 3JACK

Double check shafts and heads. Mp14 are taper. Could be left over labels on taper s300s

Double check shafts and heads. Mp14 are taper. Could be left over labels on taper s300s Yeah, that was my only question to the guy at Golfsmith. The MP14's are stock S300s and the hosels would need to be bored out to fit the S300u shafts... The guy said they were his brother-in-laws, he turned them in for him at the stoer and he had no idea if they were ever bored out, or if the shafts are actually S33u or not. Not sure if I should pull the trigger or not.
