The new putter I just picked up has a 330g head and it's at least 20g lighter than what I'm used to. I don't want to put lead powder down the shaft, or tape all over it... so I had an idea for something that just might allow me to add the weight and look clean at the same time.
What if I melt a couple lead fishing weights and pour the molten lead into the cavity on the back of the putter? It will mold to the inside of the cavity and once it's hard it SHOULD just pop out. I can then add some epoxy to the back and should fit nicely into the cavity... right?
Anyone tried this?

Sounds like a good idea. Let me know if it works!

Well, it's possible... lol. I didn't have any fishing sinkers or lead balls so I melted some lead tape I had. This is the result of melting a bunch of tape, pouring the liquid lead into the cavity at the back of the putter, and popping it out. Attachments:

I melted and poured the lead at least 5 times... this is the best I got it. It's pretty hard to do neatly because as soon as the lead hits the putter it becomes solid. There's no "wiggle" room at all. I painted the lead with black stove paint, put some epoxy on the back, and slapped it back onto the putter. Here's what it looks like now. Attachments:

The finished weight for the new lead bar was exactly 30g. Beginners luck I guess. The putter feels much better with the head now weighing 360g. If I wanted to add 30g using just the lead tape it would have taken A LOT of strips... too many. This was pretty easy and although it's not perfect, I think it looks ok. It's custom, lol...
I decided to have the wording face rearward just because I thought it looked cooler. It's reversed of course, but it looked a little cleaner than the alternative.

I wish my putter was heavier. Thanks, I'm gonna try it out.
Do you think I could just lay some lead fishing weights in the cavity and torch it? Then I wouldnt have to worry about pouring it.

That would certainly work, but you'd end up discoloring the putter. If you don't care about that then I'd do it that way. This particular putter is cast and has a grey finish to it. I don't think Blue Away would have worked on it.
Take pics for us!!!
