Here are some putting statistics that I found on the internet for the PGA Tour for 2010:
(a) 3 to 5 feet from the hole PGA Tour players made 88% of putts attempted.
(b) 5 to 10 feet from the hole PGA Tour players made 57% of putts attempted.
(c) 10 to 15 feet the percentage of putts made dropped down to 33%.
(d) 5 to 20 feet the percentage of putts made fell to only 19%.
(e) 20 to 25 feet the percentage of holed putts went to 14%.
What's the percentage made when a PGA tour player is going low and playing well?
I understand the above numbers are averages, but what's the percentage when a tour player is hot for shots at 3-5 feet? 5-10 feet? 10-15 feet?

Whe they are hot they simply hit more shots closer to the hole improving their chances. The amazing stat is they pretty much are 100% from inside of 3 feet. I mean think about those numbers. I know I don't make 1/3 of my 10-15 footers. They probably make close to 70% of all putts inside of 15 feet, they hit far more putts from inside 5 feet than they do 15

Yeah, from my preliminary statistical research...'going low' is typically done thru hitting shots closer and usually getting 1-2 shots to go in that you typically don't make or combining a low score on a hole that is typically a hole played well above par.
So for instance, one of these guys may shoot a 62...but they probably were mostly doing it thru ballstriking. Maybe birdie on a 230 yard par-3 that most were bogeying and then draining a 30-footer or maybe getting a chip in or knocking in a shot from 140 yards. The rest they 'got hot' and started flagging shots and leaving themselves with very makeable putts.

Agreed. My putting got 'worse' as my ballstriking went downhill. I was still hitting lots of greens, but wasn't getting close enough to pins to make as many as I should have been. And on the good days, everyone says 'You're draining everything' where in fact I have been knocking my short irons down its throat, closer in and in the fat tail of that distribution. Throw in a couple of ten footers and all of a sudden those scores are low.
Might sound punchy, but I can't remember the last time I missed a putt inside three feet. I might not play much these days, but I would back myself in this range.

(Are we allowed to use humor here?)
