Can someone tell me why the aimpoint site changed their policy on allowing me to view the green reading section? I have been a loyal follower of aimpoint since I viewed the David Orr video 2 years ago, I bought the charts, and now....I am booted. No notification, no email, nothing, out.
Do I need to attend a school, even though there has never been one that I know of in my area? Just to get access to a forum?
This is very disappointing. For me it may spell the end of using aimpoint if there is virtually no way for an outsider to get information on it.

***Everything Green-Reading. Only available to AimPoint students, please register through your AimPoint Instructor by sending them your login name***
I'd contact the admin or Mark and state your case. He's really pretty cool about this stuff.

I don't want to speak for Mark, but I think this is what he told us us in Las Vegas: Too many people are feeling that they're "learning" AimPoint by reading a lot of information on the Internet, and thus saying "AimPoint doesn't work" and/or not taking classes with certified instructors. I think he wants the forum to be more "promotional" except for students, in which case they can ask questions. You may not be granted access until you take a class. www.aimpointgolf.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=272

I will put a post on the thread iacas posted in an attempt to get access again.
I still feel quite wronged in this case. I have been a big promoter of aimpoint in multiple places and certainly this whole situation makes me feel a bit disenfranchised about it all. A bit betrayed.
Maybe I am being too sensitive. I don't know...

I think Mark would let you in if you purchased Orr's video and have the charts. I understand Mark's position according to iacas, I just don't think he knew that you're a different case.

I am in San Jose, CA. There have been a couple of schools nearby but often I don't find out about them until they have passed. There was one in Half Moon Bay after the US Open but I read about it on the forum after it was over (someone was thanking Mark for doing it) I wish that Mark would put them in the newsletter he puts out so I would get an idea when they are coming.
To be fair I think you do an excellent job with your planning for the schools. If you were in my area I would probably know about it because you do a great job with the planning portion.
I have a new baby so taking a day for a school takes a decent amount of planning. Especially if it is a drive.
I will add I really like aimpoint. I have charted almost all the greens at my club. I am an avid user. But there are cases for example like a video Mark did with Padraig where he had charted the green to be a 3% slope but the green acted like a 2.5% slope and his advice was to roll a few balls, that was a great learning that came from reading the forum. Mark also put examples of how to chart greens on his forum another thing I learned from reading the forum. I could go on..
I mean I can still use aimpoint from my current knowledge. But there are certainly little tidbits I have learned from the forum.

That's the thing, I think - you've learned a lot and feel that you "know" AimPoint despite not having paid a certified instructor or taken an official class. You've always seemed a reasonable type to me so while I understand how you feel I think you can understand how Mark feels and wants to protect his certified instructors.
And, you may not be the type, but some will "feel" that they know it, do it wrong, and then think it's a bad system, so "protecting" the information to some extent is perhaps the idea.

I see your point iacas. I have paid for the David Orr video and bought the charts, so I have paid, granted not a full class.
I will just wait until a class comes around in my area.

Thanks for confirming that you're a good chap. I will re-iterate that I see your point too. And a bit has changed since even last year at this time. I encourage you to find a school/class for the official stuff. It's gotten better.

You should do it, Kevin. Tough to argue with physics and your students will be amazed. Like I wrote in my blog post review...not a single student at the clinic I went to was not extremely impressed by AimPoint.

I'm scheduled for my class this week with Bernie in Baltimore. Can't wait. I told the wife not to wait up for me, I might not come back.

I'm going to have a blog post, either on Wednesday or Thursday about my thoughts on AimPoint. They are positive, just thoughts on my experiences with it and where you can slip up.

Just a guess: 1) Slope estimation. 2) Relying on things being planar. #1 is tough (i'm getting better), #2 is where advanced AimPoint comes in, particularly on the longer putts.
