Alright, who wants to join me in this?
Here's what I did:
- I hit 50 pitch shots from 27-28 yards. (ball to flag)
- I'd hit 5 balls, walk up and take a picture with my wedge lying next to the hole for reference (when I remember to anyway).
- I'd then walk back to the pitching area and toss the balls randomly on the ground. Some were left in old divots, etc. The pitching area is a little mound so I also had some uphill/downhill/sidehill lies.
Nothing crazy, but noticeable.
- I then mapped out the results
Should anybody choose to join me in this (if not I WIN... and lose now that I think about it) I think you should take some shots of the location you're hitting to and the general terrain for reference.
Why 27-28 yards? Because that's where the "fairway" spot is mowed at my driving range's practice pitching green.
There's a ridge I had to either pitch over or into depending on the lie. If I pitched it high and onto the ridge the ball would stop dead, and if I pitched it low and over the ridge it would roll out well past the hole... ultimately it's a really fun, accurate test.
The ridge I had to properly navigate:

Scoring: (cumulative... so if you have a ball 12" from the hole it will count as 3 pts for being within 1 club length, 2 points for being within 2 club lengths, and 1 point for being within 3 club lengths; for a total of 6 points. It's easier to verify with pics this way. )
1 point for each ball within 3 club lengths of the hole
2 points for each ball within 2 club lengths of the hole
3 points for each ball within 1 club length of the hole
0 points for each ball > 3 club lengths away from hole
0 points for each ball not on the green
5 points for a hole out
My score 6/2/2011 (the date on the pics is wrong): 118
