Course: North Shore GC
Irons: Srixon Pro 100
Ball: Bridgestone B330
Keep getting rain showers here and I couldn't play until 5pm or so. Orlando is the type of city where it can rain in the south, west, and east side of the city and not get a drop in the north side of the city.
It rained quite a bit there and it was about 75*, but very humid. Worked on a few things and really just wanted to keep the things I've been working on in tact during the round instead of losing them to keep the ball in play and the score low.
#1 - Drove the green. First time ever for me. Then 2-putted for birdie (-1)
#2 - so-so 3-wood off the tee, but down the middle. Pull hooked a 7-iron well left. Pitched on out of the hazard and made a 10 footer to save par (-1)
#3 - Hit a driver into the drink. Dropped. Hit a nice 5-iron to 10 feet and saved the par (-1)
#4 - Good driver down the middle followed by a good 7-iron to about 25 feet. Good putt that I just pulled a tad and made par (-1)
#5 - Snap hooked a driver left, but wound up in good shape. Hit a PW to about 20-feet and almost made the putt, but came away with par (-1)
#6 - Good 3-hybrid to about 10 feet. But, pulled the putt and made par (-1)
#7 - Pretty good driver down the middle. Took a 3-hybrid out to avoid the bunkers. Hit that well. Pulled my LW a bit and had the read, but about 2 inches short. (-1)
#8 - Flushed a PW, but with a big push-draw to about 8-feet. That was a 140 yard PW which is long for me, so the stuff I've been working on hasn't sapped my power. Made the birdie. (-2)
#9 - Good driver down the middle. Hooked a 3-wood into the woods. Hit a Seve-esqe 7-iron under the trees and onto the gree about 20-feet away and 2-putted for par (-2)
#10 - Hooked this one a bit, but wound up with a level lie. Unfortunately the lie itself wasn't very good. I hit the false front and went off the green. That false front should be named after me since I hit that all of the time. Rule of 12 chip (7-iron) to 3-feet and made par (-2)
#11 - nice driver down the middle. Probably the best drive I've ever hit on this hole. Followed it up with a good 3-wood. Decent LW to 12 feet, but missed the birdie putt (-2)
#12 - Hit a 3-wood well, but pulled it. Tried to hit a shot under the tree and I did, but well short of the green. Pretty good pitch to 10 feet, but missed the par save and made bogey (-1)
#13 - Hit a driver hard, but cut it (double cross). Hit a nice 9-iron over the trees and to about 10 feet and drained the birdie (-2)
#14 - Good 7-iron to the back of the green. Hit the first putt way too hard, about 5-feet bye, but made the comebacker (-2)
#15 - Hit a big driver down the middle. Hit a nice 3-hybrid to the back of the green. Great lag putt, and made birdie (-3)
#16 - Good 4-iron down the middle. Hit a punch PW to about 20 feet and 2-putted for par (-3)
#17 - thought about it too much and pumped a 4-iron into the hazard. Dropped, hit on and 2-putted for double bogey (-1)
#18 - Good driver down the middle. Ugly 6-iron right of the green. Pitched on and made par (-1)
THOUGHTS: Smoke and mirrors round as I hit a lot of bad shots. But, I also hit a lot of excellent shots and if I had the choice between smoke and mirrors or a bad round, I'll take smoke and mirrors.
Hopefully tomorrow it won't rain so I can take a look-see at what my swing is doing. I think I'm on the right track though.
