Been getting a lot of rain lately and couldn't play until the afternoon because they had a junior tournament going on. Course was in good shape, but damp. Weather was about 80* with 100% humidity.
I went to the range beforehand and was still struggling with the same issues. It's funny because I've got a full swing on video from last week that is about perfect as to what I want my swing too look like, but I couldn't remember why I struggled to come close to replicating it. Then it sorta clicked and I remembered one of the pieces I was working on and I just forgot about it and neglected it.
#10 - Good driver down the middle followed by a cut 3-wood. Good K-Grind to about 15 feet. Pulled the putt a tad and made par (E)
#11 - Hit a 3-wood welll, but pulled it a tad. That was followed by a flier that went roughly 185 yards with a 7-iron. Good punch under the trees and over the hill and onto the green. 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#12 - Pretty good driver down the left side followed up by a good PW to about 10 feet, but missed the birdie putt (+1)
#13 - Flushed a 4-iron right over the flag and to the back fringe. 2-putted for par (+1)
#14 - Heel-cut driver, but right down the middle so I'll take it. Pretty good SW to 10 feet, but missed the putt (+1)
#15 = Good driver that found the right rough. Now I hit another flier that went 167 yards with my 9-iron. But, I drilled a 60 foot birdie putt (E)
#16 - cut a driver into the woods. Punched out and went into the other woods. Punched out. Hit an 8-iron on and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#17 - Ugly 4-iron short of the green. Pitched on. 2-putted for bogey (+2)
#18 - Good driver down the left side. Followed it up with a nice 9-iron to 10 feet and made the birdie (+1)
#1 - Skied a driver a bit and followed it up with a 3-wood. Pitched on. 2-putted for par (+1)
#2 - Cut a driver into the woods. Had to take an unplayable. Punched out. Missed the green with a 9-iron. Decent flop and a putt save double (+3)
#3 - Good 8-iron to 20-feet, drained the birdie putt (+2)
#4 - Kinda weird here. Hit a driver alright and it took a bad kick into the fairway bunker. But the fwy bunker was filled with water so it's Ground Under Repair. Dropped. Hit a SW to 10-feet and made birdie. So I got unlucky, but lucky. Go figure. (+1)
#5 - Decent driver down the right side. Hit a PW to about 30 feet. 2-putted for par (+1)
#6 - Cut a driver into the woods. Punched out. Then an 8-iron into the green. I can say that finding anchor points is very helpful because the first time I played here it started to pour and the rain accumulated on the greens and you could see the anchor points on this green and I have a really good feel now for the green and just missed a 40 footer for birdie (+1)
#7 - Hooked a 4-iron into the woods. Good punch out that found the green and then 2-putted for bogey (+2)
#8 - Big driver down the middle. Probably hit this one abotu 290 yards, slightly uphill and on wet grass in humid air. Anyway. tried to hit a 60 yard flop with my K-Grind. Had it going right over the stick, but about 10 yards too long. It did spin back a bit. 2-putted for par (+2)
#9 - Another big driver down the middle. Hit a 9-iron that was about 1 foot from being perfect. Went into the bunker. Took a drop from the G.U.R. and a decent pitch. But missed the par save (+3)
THOUGHTS: The good news is I think I've discovered some big pieces this weekend. I just think it's a case of executing them and the tough part is executing them all in the same swing. I'd say there are about 4 things and when I get all 4 down, it's a thing of beauty.
I also think I'm on the right track given some of the power shots I hit today like the 185 yard 7-iron and 167 yard 9-iron, 215 yard 4-iron, some huge drivers, etc. Even on #2 I had 150 and I took a very smooth swing with a 9-iron and made it there easily.
I just don't think you can get that extra power without doing something better.
