I miss hit A LOT of short chips & pitch shots towards the toe. Sometimes severely.
What makes this happen? I thought I was alone in my misery until my friend (who happens to have an awesome short game) fessed up and admitted he has the same issues. He just expects to hit the ball towards the toe and plays the shot accordingly. If he catches a pitch shot flush the he knows it will go a little farther than anticipated, but otherwise he has his game dialed in with the miss.
Here's a video I shot for Spencer a few weeks ago. This is the form I have been working on, and seen some good results with... but I still miss towards the toe.
Is it too much "around" and not enough "down?" Should I stop letting gravity deliver the head and release the little bit of #4PA that's created?
On a side note, I've become pretty good at judging distance on chips/pitch shots given the miss, just as my buddy has... but I want to hit the sweet spot every time to get better spin and consistency.

Because you're closer to the ball, that forces you to have the toe down and the heel up. And your CoG of the clubhead is now towards the toe. With flop shots, I'll play the ball off the hosel so I can catch the sweetspot.

No, just with my chips. For me on Rule of 12 type chips I just don't worry about it if I hit the toe. But with a flop I like to hit the sweetspot more. 3JACK
