Had to be the hottest day of the year so far. It was...ridiculous. But by the 4th hole it started to get cloudy and windy. And by #17 it was blowing about 40 mph in our face. I worked on my swing a bit before the round. I just concentrated on getting p2 down and wanted to work from there. The good news is I believe I've got it down now and why and it makes a lot of sense towards my swing problems.
I think the issue was I was turning my hips early in the takeaway. So by the time I was at p3, the hips were turned to their max and then i believe what was happening is that they would then start turning...ever so slightly...towards the target at p4 from time to time and that would cause a lot of problems.
Of course, there are plenty of issues I need to work out, but I just feel like I have to get p2 down, once and for all.
I played with a couple of junior golfers today as well.
#1 - Ugly pull hook into the left fairway. Good 6-iron to the green. 2-putted for par. Man, the greens are slow. (E)
#2 - Hit a driver hard, but pushed it well right. Good lie though. Hit a nice 3-wood down the left side. Had a muddy lie, but hit a good shot to 15 feet. Good putt, but the putt didn't break and made par (E)
#3 - hooked a 6-iron off the planet into the water. Dropped. Almost knocked in the pitch and made bogey (+1)
#4 - Decent driver down the left side. Flushed a 3-iron into the win that went just short of the green. Chip and a putt for par (+1)
#5 - Good driver down the middle. The wind started swirling and I had a terrible lie in the fairway. I choked up on a 7-iron and missed the green to the right. Hit a chip like I wanted to, but the greens are really slow right now and it didn't get there. Hit a putt like I wanted to, but it never broke and I made bogey (+2)
#6 - Big driver down the middle. Flushed a 3-hybrid but just a bit too far into the rough with an awkward lie. pretty good 3rd shot from that lie and 2-putted for par (+2)
#7 - Good drive down the middle. Hit a good PW to 15 feet. Lipped out the putt. (+2)
#8 - I'm in between clubs here because a 6-iron puts me to the back of the green. I flushed a beauty of a 7-iron at the flag and it...wound up 2 yards short of the green. Good chip and a putt for apr (+2)
#9 - Good driver downt he middle. Decent 8-iron to 30 feet and 2-putted for par (+2)
#10 - Not a fan of this hole and i hit a block cut well right. I then nuked a 3-wood. Hit a 6-iron hard, but hooked it. Pitched on nicely and made the putt for par (+2)
#11 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a so-so 8-iron onto the green. 2-putted for par (+2)
#12 - Ugly pull draw left. Good pitch to 6-feet and made a nice par putt (+2)
#13 - Nuked a 3-wood off the tee. Flushed a PW to 15 feet. Hit the putt right where I wanted, but no break. (+2)
#14 - Decent 6-iron that I caught a tad thin. Decent putt and a par (+2)
#15 - Not a very good swing but wound up okay with the 3-wood off the tee. Great 8-iron to 5-feet and made birdie (+1)
#16 - Ugly block cut well right. Tried to knife one around the tree but hit the tree flush. Hit a decent 3-wood and then a pitch and a putt for par (+1)
#17 - Hit a decent driver down the middle, but so much wind only had it go about 240 yards. Hit a good 5-iron left of the green. Chip was okay. Missed the putt and made bogey (+2)
#18 - I've had plenty of times where I've hit driver-sand wedge into this hole. today I hit a decent driver into the wind on a soft fairway and had 3-iron into the green. Chip went to 5-feet, but missed par save and made bogey (+3)
THOUGHTS: Much better day today, but I'm more interested in my progess at p2, as simple as that may sound. I'm kinda weird in that I really start make progress when I can figure out the mechanics in detail and they make sense to me rather than just being able to execute it.
I'm going to try and get some time at Celebration on Trackman on Sunday. We'll see.
