My dad came down to play golf at North Shore. It was...hot. It's kinda crazy because it didn't look like it was going to rain until we got on the 4th hole and it started pouring by the time we got to 6th hole. We headed into the clubhouse and it wasn't pouring there when we got there. Then it started raining at the clubhouse. But, it was sunny out by the 6th hole. We headed back and then it started pouring on the 6th hole.
After that it cooled down nicely...then got real hot and humid. Thanks to the foursome ahead of us starting on 14 that took their sweet ass time to play the rest of the holes and wouldn't let us go thru.
#1 - Hit a driver decent, but a little high. Wind was in our face so I didn't clear the waste bunker. Hit a decent shot that came out rocketting off the face, but it spun and stayed on the green. Just missed a 30 footer for birdie and made par (E)
#2 - duck hooked a 3-wood into the deep rough. Good shot out of that stuff just right of the green. Rule of 12 chip (SW) to a foot and made par (E)
#3 - Good driver down the right side. Wind was blowing hard in our face. Hit a 3-iron well but pushed it into some junk. Just got it out of there and on the green and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#4 - Big driver down the middle. Hit a so-so PW which was due to a poor lie in the fairway. 2-putted for par (+1)
#5 - Hit a driver hard and well, but the wind took it and hooked it hard left (it was like a big high hook). Hit a good PW, but the wind took it to 30 feet. Sunk the 30 footer that broke about 3 feet and made birdie (E)
#6 - Heyyyy...235 yard par-3 into a huge t-storm wind. Tried to hit a driver with it teed down as low as I could and it cut on me pretty badly. Pitched onto the green and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#7 - Duck hooked a driver well left. Crushed a 3-wood and then pulled a SW to the back of the green and made a crazy 20 footer for birdie (E)
#8 - Decent PW to the back of the green. 2-putted for par (E)
#9 - Pushed a driver into the water. Dropped, hit a decent 3-wood followed by a so-so 6-iron short of the green. Rule of 12 chip (7-iron) and made a tricky putt for bogey (+1)
#10 - I started to kinda figure out what I was doing and ripped a driver right down the middle. The flag was in back and I wanted to make sure I got it there and I fired one at the flag...it went well over and pitched on. First putt short...missed the 2nd putt and 3jacked (pun intended) for double bogey (+3)
#11 - Good driver down the middle with a really nice 3-wood and a decent SW to the front of the green and 2-putted for par (+3)
#12 - Hit one off the grid here. punched out. Fired another PW at the flag, but long. 2-putted for bogey (+4)
#13 - good driver down the middle. Nice 9-iron hit exactly how I wanted it, but it just didn't go up over the tier. Putt hit the middle of the cup but bounced out. Probably would've gone about 3 feet bye had it not hit the cup...tells you how little capture width there is when you hit it a little hard. (+4)
#14 - Nice 8-iron on the right side of the green. Good concentration here because I could've gotten timid after the putt on the 13th hole, but I recognized the small hill I had to go up on the first 3-feet of the putt. Had the first putt, speed wise..perfect. tapped in for par (+4)
#15 - Good driver down the right side. Hit a 3-wood well, but it faded at the last minute and plugged. Good chip and a putt for birdie (+3)
#16 - Hit a 3-iron well, but the hands were getting sweaty and it turned the club a bit and missed under a tree. Knocked one up there. Chip and a putt for par (+3)
#17 - Decent 5-iron, but missed short. The ball had a big clump of mud that halted the ball. Missed the putt on a mis-read and made bogey (+4)
#18 - Good driver down the right side. flagged a 6-iron to 10 feet, but missed the birdie (+4)
THOUGHTS: Pretty pleased even though the score doesn't show it. It was a rough go at it out there today between the wind, the delay, the heat and humidity, slow greens, etc.
But, I discovered some core things I need to work on and something at P2 that tells me that what I though were good mechanics were a bit off. So I'll work on it this weekend. Like I've said, I think big pieces are there and most of the knowledge of there. I've tried to put the pieces together, but have failed...but lately I've found that by connecting the dots...that seems to work much better.
I'm also proud of myself for not losing my temper once today. I could have and would have lost the round with it. Instead I tried something new mentally today and it worked for me pretty well and saved my round.
