Another practice round at Shingle Creek. Today was a good day to go because they had a celebrity golf tournament that morning with NBA player Darrell Armstrong...so the pins were in very tough positions.
I started to make some nice progress with my swing Friday Night. I was using my Adams Speedline driver. I figure the Shaft is now XX-Stiff or so because I basically tipped it 1 inch earlier this week. Looking forward to getting the Wishon. I'm hoping to have that in and ready to go by Thursday.
Weather wise...I've become adept at predicting storms in Orlando better than anybody I've met as they were saying that the storm was coming when we got onto #3 and I said 'nope, the wind is blowing into us...it's going to miss us.' and it did. After that, we had perfect weather.
#1 - cut one right into the trees. Had a shot and hit a really nice one. Too soft with the chip. Then too soft with the first putt, but made a nice 5-footer to save bogey (+1)
#2 - Snap hooked a driver into the woods. Almost went O.B...didn't know there was O.B. there.. Punched out nicely. Hit a 9-iron to 30 feet. Knocked the first one well short and missed the par putt (+2)
#3 - good 3-wood off the tee, down the middle. This is when the wind really started to pick up and into our face. Hit a nice 6-iron, but the wind took it and I missed left. I hit the chip where I wanted to, but the wind took that well. Missed the par save (+3)
#4- Decent driver down the left side. Hit a decent 3-wood and then a PW onto the green. 2-putted for par. (+3)
#5 - Good 5-iron onto the green. 2-putted for par (+3)
#6 - Hit a driver well, but pushed it. Hit a decent 3-iron but found the bunker. Good bunker shot, but couldn't make the par save (+4)
#7 - So-so 6-iron that found the green. Really good 2-putt from a tough 40 footer that went down a tier (+4)
#8 - Yes, I can hit a driver here. Did just that down the middle. Hit a terrible 7-iron short of the green. Thought I hit the pitch like I wanted to, but it just didn't have much roll. 2-putted for bogey (+5)
#9 - 3-wood off the grid. punched out. Hit a good PW, but missed just right. Chipped on, missed putt and took double (+7)
#10 - good driver down the middle. good PW to 15 feet. Just missed the birdie and came away with par (+7)
#11 - Good driver down the middle. Safe 8-iron. Hit a first putt well bye the cup, but made about a 6-footer to save par (+7)
#12 - Good driver down the right side followed up by a good 3-wood and a good SW. Mis-read the putt...thought it was straight but it broke left (+7)
#13 - Good driver down the right side. Good PW to 15 feet. Tricky putt because once it got to the cup, the would really slope hard. 2-putted for par (+7)
#14 - Hit a driver hard, but steered it and it went right. Hit a good 4-iron but it found the bunker. Nice bunker shot and a putt for par (+7)
#15 - Hit a 6-iron well, but a little closed face over-draw and missed just left. Then a nice chip-in for birdie (+6)
#16 - good driver down the right side. tough lie and didn't quite hit a 3-iron and found the bunker. Decent bunker shot and a 2-putt for par (+6)
#17 - Thought I hit the 3-iron well, but it missed short. Nice PW chip up a tier to 7 feet and made the par save (+6)
#18 - Cut off too much and found trouble. Punched out. Then a nice LW to 3-feet and saved par (+6)
THOUGHTS: I look at it this way...I shot 78 with making more adjustments to my swing, having 4 tough holes because of the wind from the outskirts of the storm. I also did it with a driver that I was losing at least 25 yards with...and usually hit a push with.
Overall I hit the driver well towards the end and did shoot -1 on the back 9. The irons still need some work.
