Course: Rio Pinar CC
Irons: Titleist 690MB
Ball: Srixon Z-Star
Played the course that Keegan Bradley used to be a member at
It was pretty hot out. I took some video of my swing with some changes I made. On the range it actually looked pretty good. I was getting laid off, although it wasn't really affecting me on the way down. But the laid off move was me over-doing it. Then I had 1 really good swing recorded. Unfortunately I took the camera with me on the course and on a couple of swings I reverted back to some old stuff. Still, I think it's getting there. I also tried something with my putting and it was working quite well. Course was probably in the best condition I've seen it since I started being a member ther.
#1 - I was pushing the super-duper stiff talamonti all yesterday, so i played for a push fade all day with it. Here I hit a good driver followed by decent 3-hybrid. Then a nice chip. I've found that with focusing on getting the ball below the cup on pitches and chips...I hit less flop shots. Anyway, made the birdie. (-1)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. Had a rough lie and hit a crappy 8-iron into the bunker. Hit the bunker shot a little too hard and 2-putted for bogey (E)
#3 - So-so 7-iron onto the green. Had the line, but short. Made the par save (E)
#4 - Good driver down the middle. Pulled a PW, but found the green. Good 2-putt here and made par (E)
#5 - Good driver down the middle. Tried to hit a 1/2 an 8-iron, but caught it fat. Good chip that almost went in and made par (E)
#6 - This was actually crushed as it went 285 and with this club being so stiff, that's quite a hit. Hit a 3-wood so-so. I think I'm going to be looking out for a Titleist 910F-d 3-wood...I just don't trust this clubhead. Bunker shot lipped out for eagle, but went 8-feet bye...missed the putt and made par (E)
#7 - Funny, I was thinking about how I have yet to hit this green in regulation and I cruch a hybrid to a tough back pin position to 8-feet and drill the birdie (-1)
#8 - Good driver down the left side. Hit a SW to 20 feet, just missed teh birdie and made par (-1)
#9 - Hit a good driver here, but it took an awful bounce and went into the bunker. I mean...this was a shitty bounce. Hit a so-so 7-iron, but found the greenside bunker. Then a nice bunker shot to 1 foot and saved par (-1)
#10 - Hit this driver well, but it had a draw. That's a tough shot, but I had one with a 6-iron and cut it beautifully over and around the trees. Then hit a so-so 8-iron due to some idiot kids who were yelling in my swing with their parents watching them no less (seriously, what kind of white trash lets their kids do that?). 2-putted for par (-1)
#11 - good driver down the middle. Hit a pretty good PW but went a little long. Still, I felt I had this putt and made a 25 footer for birdie. Funny how that goes (-2)
#12 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a 7-iron onto the green. I think I'm understanding these pins better. They like to have certain pin positions that are a bit deceptive as they tend to be on a tiny, but severe slope right where the cup is. It may only be about 2 feet worth of slope, but it may be at 4% or so. that means you have to watch out for those pin positions and usually hit them a little harder because they won't get there. Anyway, I 2-putted for par. (-2)
#13 - Pulled a 4-iron left of the green. Wound up being a tougher pitch than I thought. Then I chipped on on and tapped in for bogey (-1)
#14 - Pulled a driver and found this patch of woods. Hit a tree and wound up in the fairway bunker. Hit one into the greenside bunker. Great bunker shot and made the bogey save (E)
#15 - Good driver down the middle. Hit an 8-iron a little long. Didn't quite read the putt, but made a good 2-putt from a tough spot for par (E)
#16 - Best drive of the day. Probably hit this one close to 290 yards as there was some wind behind me. But...get this.
I'm putting out on 15, playing as a single. A 3-some drives up to the 16th tee and is about to tee off and then one of them say 'do you mind if we tee off?' They were skipping thru holes and as a 3-some wants to jump ahead of a single. I think the heat fries some people's brains.
Anyway...I had a bad lie after hitting a big driver. Hit a hybrid down there and then a SW and 2-putted for par (E)
#17 - Hit a hybrid well, but missed the green right. Pretty rudimentary up and down and made par (E)
#18 - I hit this driver well, but it stayed straight hit a tree. Had an opening, but a bad lie and missed the green right. Almost knocked in the pitch and tapped in for par (E)
THOUGHTS: Probably the best I've hit the driver in a month or so. And my putting picked up as well. The swing is like trying to reach something that fell under the fridge and there are times when I can touch, but just can't grab it. I think my reach is starting to extend now and it could get really fun pretty soon.
