Hey guys,
Some Thursdays I get a call from my friend to come sub in his match play league. I was apprehensive about playing today because I had some dizzy spells today and wasn't feeling well, but it was too late to back out on my friend. I was registered as a 3 hc for 9 holes, and the guy I played was registered as a 1. Here's how it went:
Started on number 5:
#5: Par 4. Hybrid off the tee, and my path was crazy inside out, duffed snap hook. Ended up punching out, chipping on, and 2 putting for bogey. He won the hole with a par. (+1)
#6: Par 4. 5 iron off the tee layup in the fairway, 9 iron to 20 feet. 2 putted for par. He bogeyed, I won the hole and also had a shot aside. (+1)
#7: Par 3. 5 iron off the tee slightly short and right. Chipped up and 2 putted for bogey. (+2)
#8: Par 4. Nice drive a few inches from the fairway. Good half pitching wedge to about 12 feet. 2 putted for par. Tied the hole but I got another shot aside. (+2)
#9: Par 4. Great drive, nice half-pitching wedge to back pin leaving 15 feet. Made the birdie, winning the hole as he had a par. (+1)
#1: Par 5. Good drive, 4 iron second shot went into the greenside bunker. He was about two feet away from me in the bunker but duffed took 2 to get out, ended up picking up for double bogey. I hit a nice bunker shot to 2 feet and made the birdie. (E)
#2: Par 3. Decent 7 iron on the fringe, 2 putt par. He 3 putted for bogey. (E)
#3: Par 4. Nice 3-hybrid off the tee, leaving about 165 but into the wind to an uphill green and back pin. Hit a draw 4-iron to about 5 feet all the way back, made the birdie. He parred. (-1)
#4: Par 5. Nice drive all the way around the left corner but ended up in a weird depression near the left rough. Punched a 4 iron to leave a short chip, conservatively chipped on and just missed the birdie. He 3 putted. (-1)
FIR: 5/7
GIR: 6/9
Putts: 15
Score: 35 (-1)
Crazy day but I ended up with my first under par score for 9 holes, albeit it being from the men's tees rather than back tees where I normally play. Somehow still undefeated in matches in the league as a substitute player.
