Any tips on making short putts. Just played my first round in a tournament and shot 79. I missed so many short putts and I three putted from 15 feet. It's frustrating because I hit the ball good but just struggled on the greens

Short putts are hard if you're putting at 1-3 o'clock or 11-9 o'clock. Good putting starts with good ball placement on the green. Nobody can make 3 foot curlers all day long. I highly recommend you get an AimPoint lesson. It will change how you approach shots to the green.
The pros are great putters because they put the ball in a spot where the putt is makeable.
NEVER get above the hole and take the 5 foot uphill putt for par anyday over the 3 foot curler. Much easier to make. Your stroke is fine.

Downhill putts are harder to make (contrary to Pelz). The reason they're harder to make is that they're slower and more susceptible to imperfections in the green because the ball is rolling slower. I learned this from AimPoint. Check out David Orr's video for sale. Better than nothing, but a real class is better.

Yes...I've stressed this quite a bit with my course managements strategies. If you can, you want to keep even those 2-3 footers uphill. Basically, shit happens on downhill putts. The ball rolls slower, thus it wobbles and it goes off line.
The other point on short putts is that you have to be obsessive with your speed/touch on short putts. You're trying to increase the 'size of the hole that the ball will go into.' That applies for every putt...whether it's a 2 footer for a 52 footer. It's why Mickelson misses so many short ones...he hits them really hard trying to 'take the break out of the putt.' But what he's doing is making the hole 'smaller' and actually decreasing his odds of making them.

I had a friend video tap me putting for a whole round. What I discovered by using the frames to measure time was that on putts where I could see the hole in my peripheral vision while I was putting I turned my head to follow the ball and leaned towards the hole earlier than I did on long putts. I was actually moving my head to look at the hole even prior to contact. I am no expert but I am pretty sure having excess movement on short putts is a bad thing.
