Here in Orlando, the heat and humidity is ridiculous and with the daily rain showers, grips are a big issue for serious golfers. Personally, I lived in Atlanta for 9 years and from a hand sweat perspective, Atlanta doesn't even compare to Orlando. The same with Myrtle Beach.
Man...I've tried them all. IOMIC, pretty much all of the Golf Pride and Lamkin, 1/2 of the Tacki Macs (whcih are good), some of the other ones which are just the same as the popular brands.
My choice?
GripMaster USA. Slightly over IOMIC.
However, I think it's nothing to really write home about as far as sweat prevention. Personally, I don't think it's going to wow you in this factor. But, it's the best of the bunch.
If I had to rank them I would go:
1. GripMaster
2. IOMIC
3. Lamkin Crossline Cord
4. Golf Pride New Decade Compound
Again, this is from a sweaty hands perspective, has nothing to do with feel, durability, etc.
The GripMaster grips seemed to hold up the best for me. Leather just doesn't have an issue with sweat. However, if my hands are sweaty, they need to be dried off. It's not the miracle cure. But what it does is if my hands are dry, I don't have to worry about the sweat on the grip that much. I also found that I can choke down a tad and get a good grip. In other words, it 'contains' the sweat on the grip pretty well.
And so far, the GripMaster grip is feeling a bit better with wear. To me, the gold standard in leather grips was the old Neumann leather grips (not sure why somebody hasn't brought them back into the fold). I still don't think they are quite as good as those were...but, if they keep feeling good with more wear, that may wind up being the case.
Yes...you can use an air compressor with GripMaster grips for installation. I actually looked and asked around before I bought one and I was told yes. The first time I tried...it was a real pain in the ass and took me a long time. I'm figuring that the wraps of painter's tape I used to build the grip up was the problem, although I was told that it shouldn't be.
However, the grip came off easily and when I re-installed it into a KBS shaft with no tape, it was as easy as it gets to put on. So...maybe the painter's tape was the problem or perhaps it needs to be stretched out a little.
IOMIC does what it says. It does not absorb moisture. You can hit a shot with it and you will see the sweat on top of the grip...wipe it off and it's gone. However, it's a little more slippery than the GripMaster. I think you can go on eBay and get a set of IOMIC's for much cheaper than you can find GripMaster grips. And in a place where it does get hot, but not ridiculous like in Florida or Arizona...it's probably a great grip to have. Put it this way, I think IOMIC's would be a more affordable and quality alternative in Atlanta or Myrtle Beach. But in Florida, I'll pay the extra $$$ for GripMasters.
As far as getting on with an air compressor, it was not easy either. Although I didn't expect it to be as the IOMIC's are very stiff and rigid. I did get it on though and it can be done at teh standard air compression of 60 psi. It just takes longer to get on.
Lamkin makes a real thick cord and their grips usually last forever. It's also very easy to get on with the air compressor and is much more affordable than GripMaster or IOMIC.
The Golf Pride Compound grips get a bad rap sometimes, but I find if you are diligent about cleaning them, they stay in tact. The corded part is very good, IMO...feels like a nice grit of sandpaper. Also very easy to put on with the GripMaster grip.
