My dad and I went to play. Originally, we were going to go to North Shore. But we got there and they didn't tell us a jr. tournament was just giong off and that we had groups ahead of us. I am all for jr. tournaments...but man, juniors play way too slow these days.
Anyway, we decided to cancel and go to Eastwood. It was about 30 mph winds (3-club wind) and pretty wet out there. I didn't even know it rained recently.
#1 - no warmup, so i hit a hybrid and hit it thin and low, but it wound up nice. Flushed a 9-iron to 10 feet, drained the birdie putt (-1)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. Pushed a hybrid a bit. Tried to hit a 1/2 a PW and went over. Good chip into a stiff breeze to 3-feet and saved par (-1)
#3 - Wind was in our face. I hit this one well and went into the bunker with a 4-iron. Typically I hit 6-iron from that flag. Mediocre bunker shot and a good putt that just missed and made bogey (E)
#4 - I hate this hole. I actually this one well and the wind just took it right and it almost went O.B. I punched one that went into the greenside bunker. Fluffed the bunker shot in some sand that was much heavier than anticipated. Pitched on. 2-putted for double (+1)
#5 - Good driver down the right side. Hit a 7-iron thin and low and just short of the green. Rule of 12 chip (9-iron) and a putt for par (+1)
#6 - Good driver down the middle followed by a good 3-wood. Hit a 9-iron into a stiff breeze to 15 feet. Missed part of the read on the putt and made par (+1)
#7 - Good driver, but wound up in the right rough. Had a bad lie and hit a shot well, but found the green side bunker. Okay bunker shot to 10-feet, but hit the putt way too hard and made bogey (+2)
#8 - Into the wind again. Typically I hit no more than a 6-iron here. Today I hit 4-iron. Hit it fat, but I'm not sure I would've made it there if I hit it flush. Chipped on to a foot and made par (+2)
#9 - Into the wind. Hit a good driver down the middle and then hit a 3-iron. I've had driver PW into this hole numerous times. Had the read, but 2-putted for par (+2)
#10 - Great...632 yard into the win. Hit a good driver down the middle. Hooked a 3-wood and it went nowhere. Then I hit a 4-iron that I pulled left of the green. Good pitch onto the green to 9-feet. Sunk the par save (+2) (read on putt: 2 inches right of the cup)
#11 - Good driver into the wind again. Bad swing with a 3-iron and went onto the cart path. Good pitch to 10-feet and made the putt (+2) (read on putt: 4 inches left of the cup)
#12 - Flushed a 4-iron with the wind and it went about a foot short and stayed there. Rule of 12 chip (8-iron) to 7-feet. Sank that putt for par (+2) (read on putt: 1 inche right of the cup)
#13 - Kinda low pull with the hybrid. I was about 6 inches in the rough and just buried. Punch out with a PW. Now I'm in the fairway, but in a divot. Pitch on. Good putt from 30 feet and just missed. Made bogey (+3)
#14 - I wanted to hit my KBS C-Taper 6-iron and I caught it a smidge fat. But, I should have hit 5-iron anyway. Hit a PW and mis-read the break. 2-putted for bogey (+4)
#15 - Piped a driver down the middle. Had the wind with me so I slowed down my pivot to hit a PW softer and the wind just knocked it down to the front part of the green and 2-putted for par (+4)
#16 - Good driver down the middle. I can tell that it's wet out becasue with that wind behind me, I'm usually 20 yards further forward, but...no roll today. I then hit a nice 3-wood from 275 yards to about 5 feet short of the green. Some jerkoff in front of us gave me the evil eye. I just hit a 270 yard 3-wood that rolled up well short of you guys on the green and you're giving me the stink eye?
Anyway, chip to about less than a foot and made birdie (+3)
#17 - Hit a good driver, but the wind never carried it left and I found the bunker. Hit out short of the green. Hit a pitch *exactly* how I wanted to and it took a terrible bounce left and deadened out and I 2-putted for bogey (+4)
#18 - Decent driver down the middle. I hit it good, but it went low and into the wind on wet ground it only went about 245 yards. I flushed my C-taper 6-iron. I'd say I hit it about 167 yards, uphill, into the wind. The jury is still out on the distance. I'm sorta digging the ball flight and like the feel.
2-putted, made par. (+4)
THOUGHTS: Remembered something that I discussed with David Graham on my AimPoint and that helped a bit as I forgot about it on the front nine. But, I had a nice streak of putting going there.
Tough day because when you're playing a 75.3 rating, with 30 mph winds and wet grass and 8 stimp greens...it's not conducive to scoring.
I hit the driver pretty good again. I think I swing better into the wind than with the wind.
Overall, not a world beater day, but satisfactory.
