Course: Stoneybrook East
Ball: Srixon Z-Star
Stimp: 8
Beautiful day, 80 degrees and sunshine. I played with and older gentleman on Saturday and he said it best 'we put up with 3 months of hell for days like this.'
Today, I played with a buddy of mine and we pretty much zipped thru the course. Oddly enough, the course was very wet. i don't recall it raining either. Very windy, about a 2-3 club breeze.
#1 - nice driver down the middle. Hit a PW well, but pushed it a tad and left it on the fringe. Rule of 12 chip (9-iron) to 4-feet and made the par putt (E)
#2 - Good driver down the middle. 3-club win here so I drilled a 3-iron that went over the green. Rule of 12 chip (8-iron) to 7 feet. Good read and made the putt (E)
#3 - Hit a 7-iron well but the wind knocked it down a bit and left it on the fringe. Rule of 12 chip (PW) to a foot and kicked in for par (E)
#4 - Good driver down the middle, but it landed in a wet area and got about 5 yards of roll. Good 3-wood short of the bunker. Pitch to about 10 feet. Read it at 0 and it was more like -1 and just missed the birdie (E)
#5 - Good hybrid down the middle. Hit a nice PW to 7-feet. Had the read, just aimed too high and made par (E)
#6 - Flushed a 5-iron at the flag, but it was about 1-club short. Great putt to about an inch and made par (E)
#7 - Caught a driver a little thin, but down the middle. Flushed a 4-iron onto the green. Had the read and the aim, but hit it too hard and just missed the 35 footer. (E)
#8 - Cut a driver into the rubbage on the right side. Punched out and hit a 9-iron to about 20 feet and missed the birdie (E).
#9 - Good driver down the middle. Nice punch PW to 12 feet. Missed the putt...hit it too hard (E)
#10 - Decent driver down the left side. Flushed a 5-iron at the flag. Had the read, just aimed it too high and made par (E)
#11 - Good driver down the left side. Hit a so-so 3-wood down the left side. Punched a PW to 10 feet. Had the read, but hit it too hard and made par (E)
#12 - Hit a good 7-iron that was on the bottom tier. I thought I had read it perfectly, but the ball somehow broke the opposite way in the last foot. I could then see a very subtle and tricky slope about a foot from the hole. (E)
#13 - Nice driver down the middle. Hit an 8-iron to the right side of the green. Another good putt that didn't fall and made par (E)
#14 - Huge driver down the middle. Went about 320 yards. Hit a 5-iron onto the green. Thought I was right at the high anchor. Nope, a little off. Made the birdie (-1)
#15 - Nice 7-iron to about 8-feet. Again, good read, but aimed too high and made par (-1)
#16 - Hit a driver well, but a little too much down the right side and I had to hit a high hybrid with a cut and hit a high hybrid, straight. Thought I had the Rule of 12 chip down. I read it at 19 and 9 = 2.1. That's a PW. But, going uphill I used a 9-iron. Should have used a PW as I hit it perfectly on the spot, but it rolled 10 feet bye. Missed the par save (E)
#17 - good 3-wood down the middle. Hit a PW to about 15 feet, lipped out the birdie (E)
#18 - good driver down the middle. Flushed a PW, but pushed it a smidge and it spun back about 25 feet down into the bottom tier. I think the read wasn't that bad, but I hit it too hard. then, I made a nice read (12 inches) on a 8 foot putt to save par (E)
THOUGHTS: the stuff George and I worked on Saturday paid off as I hit the irons very well and the driver pretty decent. Struggled with my touch on the greens all weekend long, but I did get onto a par-5 with a drier and 5-iron today.
