Yesterday I played wth my dad and some friends up in The Villages and shot 71 (-1). Today I was playing by myself, mostly tryng to concentrate on the AimPoint stuff I worked with David Graham on. About 75 and sunny today.
#1 - 3-wood off the tee that went okay into the left rough. Good PW to 25 feet. Read was 13 inches right of the cup. Just missed. I think I didn't account for a small read that broke the putt the other way, otherwise a good job (E)
#2 - Hit it hard, but I thought it went O.B. Instead it must have it the cart path and bounced way forward and I only had 170 yards into the green. Hit a 7-iron on the green. Read was a double break, but aiming 2 inches left. It was more like 4 inches right. Made birdie (-1)
#3 - Flagged a 6-iron from 160 into the win. Read was 4.5 inches left. I think I was aimed a little high and made par (-1)
#4 - Good driver down the middle. Had 190 into the green and hit a 6-iron fat and short of the green. Nice pitch to 5-feet and the read was 0 and perfect (-1)
#5 - Hooked a driver, but it wound up okay. Hit a 9-iron from a difficult lie just short of the green. Took the wrong club to chip with and hit it too far. Read was 5 inches from 10 feet away. But hit it short and made bogey (E)
#6 - Good driver down the middle followed by a good hybrid. Over-cooked a punch PW. Had a 50 foot putt that broke 3-times. I read it at 38 inches left and it was a good read. 2-putted for par (E)
#7 - Good and big driver down the middle. Hit a nice PW to 20 feet. Read it at 14 inches left and had the putt, but hit it too short and made par (E)
#8 - Overcooked a 5-iron. Pitch went higher than I thougt and didn't quite get it there. I had it at 2 inches left and I think I was right, but I aimed more like 4 inches left and just missed it. Made bogey (+1)
#9 - Good drive that over-drawed a bit. Left me with a tough lie but hit a good shot that just missed the green. Chip and a kick in for par (+1)
I skipped over to #15 because play was slow.
#15 - skanky 3-wood that found the fairway. Hit a 9-iron fat and short of the green. Chipped in with the LW for birdie (E)
#16 - Over-drawed a driver off the tee. Hit a 6-iron then a good SW to 10 feet. I had it at 0 (right edge) but it was more like 2 inches right (E)
#17 - Finally decided that I was hitting a 1-way miss (draw), so I played for it. And I wound up hitting it almost perfectly. Difference between a SW into the green or a shot in the fairway bunker and just getting it out of there was about 3 feet. Argh.
Anyway, hit a pretty good shot out of that fairway bunker. Good pitch to 10 feet. Had the read at 6 inches and just hit it a bit too hard and made bogey (+1)
#18 - So, I'm playing for the draw and I crush one, dead straight. Actually had a shot and nuked a 9-iron over. Chip and a kick in for par (+1)
#10 - Good driver down the middle followed by a decent 3-wood. Caught a 6-iron into the wind a little off the toe. It was online, but just short. Rule of 12 chip (9-iron) that I hit a little too hard. But, a good read of 5 inches on a 5-foot putt and made par (+1)
#11 - Good driver down the middle. Hit a 3-iron that found the green. Had a 65 foot putt, the read was 57 inches right of the cup. Had the read, but hit it about 6 feet bye. Second read was 3 inches, but just missed it and 3-putted for bogey (+2)
#12 - Hit a good 5-iron that just missed the green. Good pitch to 5-feet. I had the putt at 6-inches, but I mis-calculated and it was more like 12 inches and made bogey (+3)
#13 - good hybrid down the right side. flagged an 8-iron to 10 feet. This is where the Tour pros have it good because their caddies can read the green. This putt I had at 11 inches and started it there, but there was a tiny bit of slope the last 2 feet that curved it the other way by about a 1/2 inch. made par (+3)
#14 - Good 5-iron into the wind onto the green. Read it at 40 inches. Was on cue, but left it 2-feet short and made par (+3)
THOUGHTS: overall a pretty decent round. there were some things I've been working on that seemed to help. Lately, I've noticed that I take very good swings without the ball from DTL view, but when I put a ball there, the swing alters a bit and I think I see some of the reasons why, so I worked on that.
After the round I went to the range again and the swing doesn't look too bad. I thought the AimPoint stuff went pretty well, I just need to get into the groove more with it and get the routine down quicker, make more accurate calculations and then execute the aim and the speed.
