This past weekend exposed a serious weakness in the SF arsenal. When we get behind we are completely unable to move the ball. After going down 21-19 we had 2 chances and couldn't get into field goal range on either attempt. Basically the Cardinals blitzed and we saw Alex get sacked and throw the ball around like the old days.
The Saints are better than us and will likely get the bye. I will say though that if at the start of the season you told me we will host a playoff game in the first round I would have been very happy.

One thing I like to look at are the teams that are projected to win a lot more games than they actually did. I think it gives a good peak into the next season. For instance, the Lions were projected to win 8-9 games last year and fell well short of that. Then this year, they are 8-5 and looking like a playoff team.
Some of the notables:
Tennessee - currently 7-6, so they could pull a 10-6 season. Might have trouble with this next season if Locker is the QB although I think in the NFL, you're *typically* smarter to let a rookie QB sit on the bench the first year.
Seattle - They are 6-7 and doing it without much of a QB.
Miami - I actually think Miami could be a in a great position to do some good things in 2013. They would need to get a top-3 QB in the draft. They would need to get a solid Head Coach. And they would need to sit out the rookie QB the first year.
Personally, I would probably look to deal Chad Henne for a 2nd round pick, have Matt Moore start in 2012 and then have the rookie (who would be in his 2nd year), take over in 2013. I think it's scary that it is pretty simple, but I get the feeling they will screw it up somehow.
Cleveland - They are doing it with good defense right now. Problem is that they play in a tough division and Roethlisberger and Flacco are still young QB's.

I take it all back about Detroit. Have never seen a team come back from behind so many times? They have something going. With a reliable rb they would be hard to beat!

They need corners and Delmas to get healthy, maybe in the off season. I never started freaking out because they lost tight games to San Fran, Atlanta, then lost to Green Bay and New Orleans , the only gae they played a so so opponent and lost was Chicago on the road and they were decent before Cutler/Forte got hurt. San Diego this week and Green Bay next, I believe its right there for the toughest schedule in the league.
