I decided to play Eastwood today using my Cleveland RC85 persimmon woods. Due to that, I played from the white tees which is 6,500 yards. Weather was about 65, about a 2-club breeze.
#1 - good 4-iron off the tee down the middle. Flushed an 8-iron to about 20 feet. Had the read, just not enough gas. (E)
#2 - Hit a cut-slider into the right rough and had a tough lie which I hit poorly. Wound up in the rough with a fluffed up lie and tried a driver off the deck and hooked it. Punched a PW onto the green and missed an 8-footer for par (+1)
#3 - Hit a 6-iron into the wind a little thin and missed just short. Rule of 12 chip (PW) to a foot and made par (+1)
#4 - Smoked a 3-wood right down the middle. Little over-draw with a 7-iron to 30-feet. Left first putt short and made the 3-footer for par (+1)
#5 - toe-hooked a driver down the left side of the fairway. Over-drawed an 8-iron into the left bunker. Decent bunker shot to 10-feet and drained the par save (+1)
#6 - Smoked a driver down the middle. Laid up with a 4-wood that I hooked. Had a bare lie on some dirt, but flushed it to 5-feet and made birdie (E)
#7 - Toe hooked a driver over the bunker. Very steep downhill lie that I hit well with an 8-iron, but left it short. Really a beautiful pitch to 3-feet and saved par (E)
#8 - Flushed an 8-iron that hit the flag stick, but wound up 8-feet from the cup. Didn't play for enough break and made par (E)
#9 - Hooked a driver into the woods. Had a shot and found the green over the trees. Read it correctly, but a little too hard on a tough putt and made the 3-footer for par (E)
#10 - Hit a good 3-wood, but a bit too far even though I was in the fairway. Just hit a 3-iron in order to get over the trees. Then chunked a 3-iron well short of the green. Punched a PW on and 2-putted for bogey (+1)
#11 - Big drive here with the wind behind us. Probably hit this about 280 yards. Hit a nice punch PW to 12 feet, but just burned the edge and made par (+1)
#12 - Decent 7-iron onto the green. tough putt, but I had the speed, but not high enough and made par (+1)
#13 - Good 3-iron down the middle. Flushed an 8-iron to 15 feet. Putt broke off the earth and I almost made it (+1)
#14 - flushed a 7-iron over the pin. Little too hard on the birdie putt and made par (+1)
#15 - Low hooking 3-wood that found the left side of the fairway. Had an uphill lie and hit a sky-rocket that found the green. Another putt that broke off the earth and wound up 4-feet bye. Missed the comebacker (+2)
#16 - Hooked a driver down the left side. Hit a 3-wood on the screws, but hooked that as well. SW onto the green and 2-putted from 20 feet (+2)
#17 - More of a pull draw here, but hit it well and found the fairway. Flushed a 7-iron to 15 feet, but a bad putt and a par (+2)
#18 - Over-drawed a driver into the left rough. Ball was well above my feet and I just hit a 5-iron and tried to advance it. Left it well short. Then I almost knocked a pitch in and kicked in for par (+2)
THOUGHTS: The persimmon would be a little more fun to play with if I could hit more it more consistently. I find that the persimmon is really good with helping with long iron, fairway wood and driver swing mechanics.
I saw some improvements to the swing mechanics, but a few things are not quite clicking at the moment.
