At Olde Atlanta Club, a course that's weird in that I'm likely to play better off the tips than the blues. But with the group I'm in, we play off the blues...which was okay because the course was drenched and it was about 45, windy and cloudy. Today I was using the Hogan Percussions. My main problem at OAC is putting on their tough greens and today was no exception:
#1 - Hit a big driver that I pushed a little. 5-iron to the green and then the hole was cut right under a tier. Knocked my first putt 10 feet by. Lipped out the comebacker (+1)
#2 - Hit a huge driver down the right side. Furthest I've ever been on the hole. But I had a tough LW on a wet lie over a bunker. Just glad that I got on the green. 2-putted from 25 feet. (+1)
#3 - Caught a 5-iron a little thin, but wound up 20 feet to the cup. Usually this will get me a greenie, but the playing partner knocked it to 10 feet. Anyway, just a little short for birdie, tapped in for part (+1)
#4 - Hole really isn't that hard, but I struggle on it for some reason. Now it was extra hard because it was the west fairway on the course and you were going into the teeth of the wind. I then hit a big drive right down the middle, but hit my 7-iron thin and short. Struggled with the 7-iron for some reason all day long. Couldn't get up and down (+2)
#5 - So-so hook driver down the left side. Excellent hybrid. Hit a PW to 4 feet, made the putt for birdie (+1)
#6 - Good 3-wood off the tee and then hit a block 9-iron short and right. Impossible position from there but knock it to 10 feet. And 2-putted (+2)
#7 - Decided to hit it as far as I could, so I teed it high and moved the ball forward. Crushed it, but with the wind and wet ground I didn't hit it far. Had PW that went over the flag. 3-putted from 15 feet thanks to a ridiculous pin position (+3)
#8 - Hit a 7-iron with a push draw to 30 feet. 2-putted. (+3)
#9 - Pull draw into the woods, should have never hit a driver. punched out. Weak 8-iron into the trap. Awful lie. 2-putted from 40 feet for double (+5)
#10 - Excellent drive down the middle. Hit PW to 8 feet. Made the birdie (+4)
#11 - Hit a nice driver to about 140 with some tail wind behind us. Hit 9-iron on the green, but about 25 feet short of the pin. Just missed the putt for birdie (+4)
#12 - Solid driver down the left side. Hit my best 3-wood in probably 6 months, but found a fairway bunker about 50 yards short of the green. Hit a really nice LW out of the fairway bunker, but the ball according to my partners backed up about 10 feet. 2-putted from 20 feet. (+4)
#13 - Hit a 5-iron flush, but a dead block. Pitched on, but too hard. 2-putted from 15 feet (+5)
#14 - Big driver down the right side and hit PW but caught the swale and 2-putted from 30 feet (+5)
#15 - Tried to hook a driver and did perfectly, even though I needed to hit it off the toe to do so. Hit an 8-iron to 20-feet and 2-putted from there. (+5)
#16 - Caught a 4-iron a little thin and the wind took it into the bunker. Thought I hit a great sand shot, but it almost rolled off the green. Then I knocked in a putt from 20 feet. (+5)
#17 - Tried to bomb another driver and did, although it had a push fade to it. Wind caught SW in and left me with 35 feet to the cup. 2-putted from there (+5)
#18 - Tried to bend a driver around the dogleg right but it drew on me. Hit hybrid that luckily drawed because I didnt have enough to get over the H2O. Had a horrible lie (we were playing them down in the rough, which sucked) and just got it on the green. Then drained a 30 footer for birdie (+4)
